Awesome knife!
Bigger than expected but so far living up to expectations. The packaging was high end. The knife is sharp out of the box, looks awesome and has a nice feel and weight. Pretty much everything I thought I was buying and more.

Amazing Japanese kitchen knife at an amazing price.
I rarely report but this knife is amazing and for what I would likely pay far more for. I have bought three more for my friends who are excellent cooks and so is my girlfriend. My cousin and other friend were shocked by the quality and everlasting quenching degree, as am I. They are made by the knife masters...of course the Japanese. This knife handles better and more accurately than knives I have paid far more for. That meaning Henkels. Wostofs ana all yhe rest. Not is it an amazing cooking knife...But if you ever need self defense this would be the best knife to have. I have knives that cost in the hundreds that I would say are on the same line in many ways. I can't find any coming flaw in this fine peice of craftsmanship. I will be buying all the other model styles I need from them. By the way I'm VERY picky about my cutlery. This company is inexpensive ana I don't know why. I hope they don't change their prices due to my review. I could go on and on but I'd say If you wand an awesome knife for the kitchen and all else then grab on quickly as I think they may up their prices, as they are crazy low. My knife will still be going when I am dead. I am also a knife maker, so that gives my review credit for my review. Hope you get one since you'll never need another. Enjoy this fine bullet proof piece of craftsmanship!

Extremely sharp knife
This is an incredibly sharp knife! Cuts through just about anything! It's an excellent knife but must be handled with extreme care, because of its very sharp blade. If you purchase one, I recommend getting the leather knife sheath to safely store the knife.

Very sharp but no sheath. Better for meat than vegetables. Use an 8" kitchen knife for veggies.
Yes it is sharp, however, it does not come with any type of sheath. You can not put it in a drawer and must hang it up. I bought magnetic strips in order to place it on the wall. You can buy a leather sheath from the company, but, other sharp knives I have purchased have come with at least a plastic sheath so it can be stored in a drawer. Trying to keep it in the box it comes in is tedious because it fits very snugly and is difficult to extricate.

Wife proof sharpness!
The bride is pretty talented at getting even my sharpest knife to the point of being dull like a butter knife in about a week, two at the most. Frustrating to say the least and this has been a battle for 37 years. Ah, but the Matsato has foiled her! This knife has remained razor sharp for almost three months now! I am amazed and dancing with joy! This knife can cut just about anything you care to throw at it. It is comfortable to use, so sharp, and just a joy to use. I like mine so much I also bought one for the son in law who is also an accomplished chef. He is amazed at how well his works and at a fraction of the cost of many of his more "professional" knives.I highly recommend this knife: great value, durable, sharp, sharp, sharp!, and not at all expensive compared to what is out there. An A+ in my book!

Not made in Japan and not made by Japanese masters but it is SHARP out of the box
The knife is sharp, very sharp. In fact it registers a respectable score of 178 which was repeatable on my BESS certified scale. For perspective, that is in the range of a utility razor blade which is sharper than the range of high-end cutlery. So you're asking, why only four stars then....and the answer is because the Matsato site describes the knife as "crafted using traditional Japanese methods" and "One of the reasons the Matsato knife performs so well is becauseit’s made from premium Japanese stainless steel." but it is made in china which casts doubt on the origins of the steel used and the longevity of the blade.
