Yup!
I didn’t know beforehand that there’s a bit of setup with Japanese chisels, but the setup was rather enjoyable and now I’m more invested in the tool than just monetarily. It isn’t the most beautiful of this style of chisel, but it’s very well made. Though, after setting the hoop (soak the end), I did refinish that shiny handle. Flatten the back, and sharpen. Whole thing felt like a pleasant ritual.

Nice chisels with 1 flaw...
I really like how these chisels feel. Well balanced and good weight on the steel that helps you cut through the wood. There is one issue I have and it's also the same with a second one I purchased later. I have the 5/8" and the bottom wasn't perfectly flat. In the 1st Pic you can see what I didn't flatten completely on the top left corner. Still it does work very well. I recently purchased the 1/4" and as you can see in the picture the right side is not touching the stone. That's half of the chisels cutting edge not being sharpened. I was thinking about getting a full set but if they all have this issue I may look elsewhere. It's a shame because these are great chisels but QC can be an issue. Don't know if anyone experienced this.

Pay attention to fitting the butt ring to the handle
Works very well and came sharp and ready to perform. I immediately started on some hidden tenons for a stitching horse I am making, worked well for most of the day. I will be servicing the cutting edge with a guide later to get it back to working order. Steel seemed better than other J. chisels I currently own, instructions for the butt ring were helpful and worked well. Also your traditional Japanese chisels are hollow ground to allow easier sharpening of the harder steel along the cutting edge (see above pic, the shiny area on the bevel is a harder steel) there are HIGHLY polarized thoughts on this (Folks for it and against) personally I have all sorts of tools from Germany/Sweden/Japan and have no issues either way, lots of techniques work and I wont get into them here. Just remember they have been using them like this for centuries making amazing things, so know what tool you are using I suppose.
