I struggled in chosing a system for my home. The last time I installed a home system was 15 years ago when the best standard was coax with power wire and 480 res cameras. My goals was finding the best resolution / value /ease of installation. I planned to run conduit around my home and pull 115 volt power to each camera. But when I saw the option to run power over ethernet I thought that would be awesome. That's when I stumbled across this Lorex 4k 8 mp 16 camera system. It seemed to easy. After reading reviews I became a little skeptical. But I could not find another system that combined the high res with value that had good reviews. Seems like all the good reviews led me to the more popular home systems ( I won't name them, but you've all heard of them). I don't want to pay subscription fees. I went ahead and ordered the Lorex, fully expecting to return it if I did not like it. When the system arrived I spent a few hours trying to determine the best place to install the NVR allowing for the easiest cable pulls. Also wanted a location where the sound of the cooling fans are not an issue. Once I decided on the location it took two hours to run cables under the house to install 4 cameras covering all entry points to my home. Then set up NVR, download updates, chose recording features, set up Lorex Cloud on my phone. I have 12 more cameras to run but I had to go on a business trip so that will happen next weekend. I'll update the review if I have any issues but don't expect any. Some of the reviews I read say the instructions provided are terrible . I disagree. The provided quick setup got me through everything I needed. The only problem I ran into was the setup for the Lorex Cloud app. The app said to scan th QR code so I snapped the QR displayed on the monitor which just leads you back to the app store to download the app again. I pulled up the help function which more clearly tells you to scan the QR code on the lable attached to the top of the NVR. That makes a lot more sense and Bam...the app worked perfectly. Could not be an easier setup. Next day after installing the system I went to work and pulled up the app to see how it looked and could not connect to the system. Pulled up a chat session with tech support and found them to be fast and responsive. Turned out my work firewall is blocking the port used by the system. I turned off the WiFi on my phone and connected to LTE and the app immediately connected to the Lorex system. Summary: incredibly easy setup. Support is awesome. Quality of the video is outstanding. If you don't understand POE, read up on that first. Understand limitations set by Cat 5e and look into Cat 6 if you plan to run longer than the provided 100 foot long cables. Read the blanking manual.

This system's DVR is TERRIBLE!! Stay away from this system! Had DVR replaced one year after I purchased it and now the replacement is done two years later. Called support and they said I would have to buy another DVR. So was transferred to sales and they said I need model number of cameras which are all hung up in the ceiling. So, $2,800+install fee later, I have no cameras!!! I am mad as hell! I have an old DVR that is still working after 12 years. Should have just got that system again. Oh, and this model only holds recordings for 3 days. My old system holds 7 days. Just not a good system!!!!!!!!!!!

Lorex makes great cameras, and the software/app is great. I use them for my business and have loved them. There is about a second lag in the live feed due to the cable length (30m). I ended up using CAT6 cables with some RJ45 connectors to fix the noise and cut down on response time. Everything with the system is great, the reason for three stars has everything to do with the seller. Slow shipping speeds and slow customer response times. Not a pleasure dealing with OnPoint Surveillance. Will not be buying again from this seller.

Bought this for our Church.... camera installs went great, NVR Setup was easy.....until..... I found that when I reboot the system (you have to reboot for any number of changes (display resolution etc) the NVR will not recognize the cameras on the network.... I have to factory default the NVR to get it to recognize the cameras again. Currently working with support on this issue. Also, some of the cameras have updated firmware, and some are on a two year old version of the firmware....when I asked for a copy of the current firmware for the cameras to upgrade them, support told me that they don't have a copy of it and that the cameras "should" update themselves.... been 3 weeks live and still not updating. All in all I like the system, just wish support could get their act together and be able to provide resolutions to these issues. I also installed an additional 6TB drive to bring the system up to 9TB of recording space... that process went smooth with no issues at all.

Nice product. Easy to setup. Great cameras. The picture quality is awesome.

Great video quality and relatively easy to install cameras without professional help. My only issue with this package is there's no instruction manual on how to setup the settings on the NVR. You will have to rely on searching on YouTube for help to resolve error messages you will definitely encounter.

Do Not buy this . bad instructions on setting up the system and tech support is very poor after waiting for hours to reach them. For a hi end system there is very little information to help you. Do not buy

Amazing quality! Very impressed. Worth the money. Downside is it records 3 days worth of recording into the provided hard drive. By decreasing the resolution I was able to get it save up to 4 days.
