Withings Smart Baby Monitor

Love it! Use it to check my father has taken his tablets from the comfort of my own home, or anywhere else for that matter. Well designed & reliable over the last 2 years! Some might think it is pricey, but I think it is worth every penny.

It would be better if they would spend some time and budget to update the app, to include video recording like the typical Withings camera!

Dont usually write reviews but I am astounded the company still sells this faulty model with known faults. On my second unit after withings replaced the first. The power adaptor is faulty giving up after about 6 months or so of use. Looks like the power inlet (micro b) in the device is badly designed so eventually loses connectivity and won't charge: red light of doom. In addition our battery expanded breaking the seal and presents a hazard ie pushes device off holder risking. Falling onto baby. Add to the faults the fact that picture quality is not great and software is dated we will not be buying from withings again. It is a shame as their marketing makes their products look great. My advice go with a trusted brand you can depend on quality especially if using it to monitor something as precious as your baby.

I read a lot (30-50) of reviews on this product both here and on many other review sites. Many complain of dropping video, lost alert settings after app restart, poor night lighting etc. I think many problems with video streaming stem from poor wifi signals and slow broadband speeds (from ISPs). I have good wifi and ISP speed so I have not experienced those problems. I have both an ipad mini with retina display where it works brilliantly and a Nexus 5 android device where the experience is hugely poor (update April 2015 - Withings have effectively abandoned support for Android so don't buy if you are not using iOS). There is some lag on the video and voice relay (2 -3 seconds) but you would expect this on any device of the same ilk. Video streaming takes both processor and graphics processing muscle so don't expect a ipad gen 1 to cut it. Pros - on recent i-devices (etc) video quality is good/ sufficient and night lighting is fine (if not a little spooky) - Looks good - Was easy to set up (but I am technically minded and used of setting such things up) - many complain of complex set up but I thought it was simple - took 10 mins including testing of main features - Good features (video, coloured night light, ability to speak to baby - sound quality is good from ipad, alerting, lullabies, temp and humidity sensors) Cons - Do NOT buy this device if you have an android device (see above). - The mounting mechanism wont work for everyone and some people have commented that the magnetic mount is weak so is prone to be dislodged by an active baby - update April 2015 - mine has worked out how to do it so we have to dismount during the day when he is in the crib - The micro usb charger (where it connects to the unit) design, from other reviews is prone to coming away from the circuit board assembly if you drop it on the connector meaning you cant charge the device. Also trying to force the usb connector the wrong way seemed to yield the same result - probably just takes some care and attention...would prob benefit from an apple like magnetic power connector - Battery life is 1 hour tops so frankly you need to keep it connected to mains at all times. From my research very few good video baby monitors that connect to your tablet / phone...this seems to be one of the better ones and so it should be for the price. You could probably rig up an old ios device and just facetime to it and get the video monitoring part but you wont get the other features. So key tip - only buy this if you have strong wifi signal around your house and have a min 10mbs internet connection. Only use with an ios device!

We had high hopes for this monitoring system. Our daughter is disabled and this seemed like the perfect way to watch as well as listen to her at night. The picture was clear, the sound was clear, the app easy to install on my iPad and iPhone. Good start. However, we soon realised that we were regularly losing connection throughout the night. Sometimes the app alerted me to this fact, other times the picture just froze or went black. We restarted the router, reset the camera, etc. but continued to have this connectivity problem. As the connection seemed marginally worse when my daughters bedroom door was shut, we wondered if our internet may be the problem (although nobody else in the house were having connection problems with their various laptops and phones). So we bought a wifi range extender which we plugged into my daughters room. Unfortunately this made no difference at all and my iPad was constantly advising me that the connection had been lost. So we have given up and returned it. I have ordered the considerably cheaper Baby Ping to try. Wish me luck!

We found it easy to set up, no connection problems with WiFi, night mode quality is good, really impressed by temperature + humidity sensors - comes with zoom, and you can even talk to to your baby or play it lullabies! The only downside is the high price...

Es un completo vigila bebe, que yo incluso lo uso para ver que hace el perro cuando no estoy en casa, por si se pone a ladrar mas de la cuenta... el cliente de iOS en el iPad es muy bueno, la calidad de la cámara es buena tanto con luz como con el modo nocturno, puedes gestionar los umbrales de las alertas, tiene muchas opciones, pero para mi la mas importante es poder sacar el iPhone y ver a tu hijo en cualquier parte del mundo.

Ottimo prodotto, facile da usare e impostare. Fuori casa con l'iPhone si vede bene anche con il 3G. Unica pecca il prezzo, un po' alto ma in linea con videocamere ip di questa fascia. Utile anche la funzione ninnananna, meno la luce multicolore. Costasse meno ne comprerei un' altro per monitorare altre stanze.

Bei der Babyüberwachung war uns wichtig, dass wir unsere Kleine auch sehen können. Ich hatte mich Anfang 2011 ausführlich über normale DECT-Babyphones mit Videofunktion informiert und auch schon mit WLAN-fähigen Kameras auseinander gesetzt. Damals schienen mit die WLAN-Cams zu aufwendig in der Installation bzw. benutzerunfreundlich, deshalb entschieden wir uns für das Babyphone von Philips SCD600. Grundsätzlich ein gutes Produkt, das seine Schwächen beim Signal zeigt. Das WLAN-Netz störte den Empfang doch deutlich und es kam permanent zu Aussetzern. Per Zufall wurde ich auf das Babyphone von Withings aufmerksam und war von der Technologie in Zusammenhang mit der Nutzung durch iPhone und iPas schnell überzeugt. Beides ist vorhanden und zumindest das iPhone hat man doch ständig in seiner Nähe. Zudem wäre dann auch der störende Punkt des Signals gelöst, da dann alles im gleichen WLAN-Netzwerk läuft. Mittlerweile habe ich das Babyphone von Withings knapp eine Woche in Gebrauch und kann hier somit zumindest einen Zwischen stand geben: 1.) Anschluss und Installation Fast in gewohnter Apple-Manier lässt sich das Babyphone anschließen, installieren und in Betrieb nehmen. Dauert keine 10 Minuten und man hat das Baby auf dem Schirm seines iOS-Gerätes. Man kann dann diverse Einstellungen (Warnmeldungen für Ton, Bewegung, Temperatur, Feuchtigkeit) und Nutzerinformationen (Babyname, Geburtstag, ect.) schnell auf das kostenlos im App-Store verfügbare Withings Baby-App übertragen. Mit dem notwendigen Login bei Withings kann man dann auch schnell von anderen iOS-Geräten (auch gleichzeitig) mit dem App auf das Babyphone zugreifen. Das Babyphone macht einen hochwertigen Eindruck und kann mit dem inklusiven Zubehör das Babyphone an das Babybett oder an der Wand montieren. 2.) WLAN-Signal oder LAN? Da das Kinderzimmer bei uns im ersten Stock und der Router bzw. die TimeCapsule im EG ist läuft das Babyphone über WLAN. Bzgl. bösen Strahlen mache ich mir keine Sorgen, da das WLAN mit 2,4 GHz läuft - das war auch bei dem Philips-Gerät so. Aber das soll jeder für sich entscheiden. Da wir jetzt das Baby mit dem iPhone bzw. iPad nachts überwachen musste ich lediglich mein WLAN-Netz durch eine Airport Express erweitern, da das Signal nicht bis ins Schlafzimmer reichte. Die iOS-Geräte hängen nun nachts am Strom und man kann das Baby entweder nur hören (Withings-App läuft im Hintergrund) oder mit Bildschirm laufen lassen. Der Vorteil: Man hat immer einen vollen Akku wenn man morgens aufsteht. 3.) Withings-Baby-App Das App erscheint aufgeräumt und strukturiert. Man findet sich schnell zurecht und kann problemlos in andere Bereiche navigieren. Ich empfinde es als großen Vorteil, dass man das App auch im Hintergrund laufen lassen kann, d.h. wenn man das Baby überwacht kann man weiterhin alle weiteren Apps nutzen. Man hört dann im Hintergrund sein Baby und bekommt schnell mit wenn was passiert. Da das App über den Withings-Server läuft kommt es natürlich zu einer leichten Verzögerung von knapp 1 Sekunde - das nimmt man aber in Kauf und stört nicht weiter. Der Stromverbrauch des iOS-Gerätes ist mit laufendem Videoempfang natürlich deutlich höher - wenn das App im Hintergrund nur mit Ton läuft ist der Verbrauch vollkommen ok. Mit dem iPhone kann man entsprechend ausserhalb des WLANs das Baby weiterhin überwachen. Bislang habe ich es im täglichen Gebrauch aber nicht wirklich gebraucht, da man ja doch in der Regel in der Nähe ist. Für unterwegs erweist sich die Airport Express (hoffentlich) als nützlich, da ich mich damit im Hotel oder bei Verwandten ins WLAN-Netz einwählen kann und so auch unterwegs das Baby überwachen kann - man muss dann das Babyphone mit dem neuen Signal neu installieren. 4. Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis Sicher, der Preis hat mich im ersten Schritt etwas abgeschreckt, da das doch im absoluten Premium-Segment ist. Doch Geräte in dieser Preisklasse liefern in der Regel auch den entsprechenden Mehrwert. Wenn man bedenkt wie lange man das Kind noch beobachten möchte macht es Sinn in ein hochwertiges Produkt zu investieren. Irgendwann bekommt das Kind eine richtige Bettdecke und da will man ja auch noch sehen, ob das Kind gut damit zurecht kommt. Falls man es dann wirklich gar nicht mehr für das Baby braucht kann man es immerhin noch als Raumüberwachung nutzen wenn man im Urlaub ist... 5. Apple verpflichtet... Wir haben den Vorteil, dass wir beide ein iPhone 4s benutzen und ein iPad 2 im Haus haben. So sind wir sehr unabhängig und können in jeder Situation das Baby überwachen. Wenn das Kind irgendwann mal zu den Großeltern zum Übernachten geht (z.B. sind wir demnächst auf einer Hochzeit und das Kind schläft bei den Großeltern) kann man Ihnen z.B. das iPad zur Überwachung überlassen. Hier sollte man grundsätzlich überlegen wer, wie oft und wann das Baby überwacht. Ich bin z.B. viel beruflich unterwegs und nicht vor Ort. Würde sonst kein iOS-Gerät zur Verfügung stehen wäre das Babyphone nutzlos. Dieser Punkt scheint mir mit der Wichtigste bei der Anschaffung zu sein, da man den technischen Vorteil in seinen Alltag übertragen sollte und zu erkennen, ob das Babyphone in jeder Lage und von jedem Beteiligten genutzt werden kann. Zusammengefasst: Vorteile - schnelle Installation und in Betriebnahme - hochwertiges Design und praxisnahes Inklusivzubehör - für jeden Nutzer eines (oder mehrerer) iOS-Geräte möglich - Babyphone über WLAN, Bluetooth oder Ethernetkabel mögliche Verbesserungen - das Tonsignal des Apps läuft permanent, d.h. man hört das Baby im Schlaf auch schnaufen (grundsätzlich ja gut). Hier waren wir es von Philips gewohnt, dass das Tonsignal erst dann anschlägt, wenn der Geräuschpegel über das normal Schnaufen hinaus geht. Hier kann es sicherlich noch Verbesserungspotantial als SW-Update geben. Da man ja schon die Möglichkeit hat ab einem gewissen Geräuschpegel bzw. -dauer eine Warnmeldung zu bekommen, wäre es relativ einfach mit Erreichen des eingestellten Geräuschpegels auch das Tinsignal an das iOS-Gerätes zu senden. Nachteile - bisher nichts, was ich als wirklich technischen Nachteil empfinden würde Update vom 30. Mai 2012: Wie vielleicht bekannt kann man jetzt auch ohne Zeitlimit mit einem fremden Netz das Baby überwachen - bisher war das ja auf 15 Minuten begrenzt. Hier nun ein Praxisbericht von unserem Pfingst-Wochenende in München mit dem Betrieb des Babyphones: So, nach dem schönen Pfingst-Wochenende in München hier nun das Ergebnis mit dem Babyphone: Da mir das hoteleigene WLAN immer suspekt ist habe ich meine AirportExpress mitgenommen. Diese habe ich mittels hoteleigenem LAN verbunden und daraufhin mein eigenes WLAN erzeugt (natürlich vorher den Zugang frei schalten lassen!). Mit dem iPhone habe ich mich mit dem eigenen WLAN verbunden und damit das Babyphone in Betrieb genommen. Im Zimmerbereich (4. Stock) lief das Babyphone natürlich tadellos - ist ja wie zuhause mit eigenem WLAN. Abends legten wir unsere Tochter wie gewohnt ins Bett (hier war das Zubehör des Babyphones: Klemme ans Babybett extrem hilfreich!) und wir konnten gemütlich abends im Hotelrestaurant essen. Ich war mit dem iPhone mit dem hoteleigenen WLAN (also einem "fremden" Netz) verbunden und hatte immer gute Sicht auf das Kind. Ich habe zum Test den WLAN-Empfang meines iPhones deaktiviert. Auch mit 3G-Empfang konnte ich über 15 Minuten hinaus das Baby beobachten. ERSTKLASSIG! Natürlich war es nicht immer toll wegen dem Schnullerverlust der Tochter mit dem Aufzug in den 4. Stock zu fahren, aber hey: dafür war der Abend umso entspannter!!! Zudem muss ich sagen, dass der Transportbeutel sehr gut gelungen ist. Babyphone rein, da gibts im Beutel noch eine vernähte Polsterung, die dann umlegen und das Babyphone wird durch Kabel ect. nicht verkratzt... Die erste Installation war natürlich etwas fummelig (so: was mach ich jetzt zuerst?!?), aber wenn man das einmal gemacht hat, geht das wunderbar - vor allem mit der AirportExtreme! Auch nach dem Kurzurlaub war selbst meine Frau von dem Babyphone begeistert. Sonst war sie eher skeptisch, aber das hat sie vollends überzeugt. Dieser Praxistest hat 5 Stern verdient!!!

Bonjour tout le monde, Ayant déjà lu beaucoup de choses sur les moniteurs, celui-ci ressortait du lot de par toutes ses fonctionnalités. Celle qui m'intéressait le plus étant bien entendu le fait que l'on puisse s'y connecter depuis internet. Et bien même si bébé n'est pas encore arrivé, le produit répond à toutes mes attentes et testé et approuvé par la maman également. La vision nocturne s'adapte automatiquement et immédiatement. Le chat vocal d'internet vers le BABY MONITOR est instantané !!! ce qui n'était pas forcément le cas sur d'autres appareils. Bref, comblé par ce produit et sachez donc que son prix est à la mesure de la qualité. En parlant des fonctions, vous pouvez avec un compte configurer des utilisateurs ayant accès également ce qui vous permet de partager l'appareil avec votre famille ou vos amis éventuellement !
