Set contains 30+ pieces and is easy to assemble. Hàs a good amount of features- Goes forward and back, has bells, whistles and more. Good quality and looks like a train you'll use for years to come. Perfect for Christmas.

This is not for me, but I had to get it because I know how great trains (other models I’ve seen) are from Lionel!I really liked ‘the Lionel Santa Fe Super Chief LionChief Set’, which is about three times more expensive than this one and is magnificent in every way. I have to say the overall quality of the Santa Fem in general was better than this model due to the price difference. While I hesitated due to the one being one-third of the price of what I really liked, my friend told me that her niece loves ‘the Lionel New York Central Ready-to-Play Set’, which is about the same price as this train set. So I went ahead and requested this one for the upcoming Christmas gift for my niece, who is four years old (soon to be 4.6, according to him, haha).In my experience, Lionel trains are absolutely wonderful in terms of quality and quite detailed in construction. I know the aforementioned Santa Fe train worked smoothly both forward and backward on the track with a strong motor.Obviously, the final verdict won't be in until after Christmas when my niece finally has a chance to play with it, but this model seems like wonderfully constructed with decent craftsmanship for the price. The material might not be the best, but again, for the price the overall quality is undoubtedly great. Obviously, the Lionel train models that cost three to four times more are better, but this is still a decent, charming holiday model, especially for the price. This will be a wonderful choice for anyone who wants to buy a decent quality train set, as a gift or to decorate for the holiday season, without breaking the bank. If you can afford it, however, I would recommend going through the many train models available from Lionel because there are so many extraordinary trains from this company :)

Overall: Fantastic train set and one our family will enjoy having for years to come. Just a couple notes in the Cons column.Pros:1) This train is beautiful2) It is incredibly well made - lightweight for all the cars and heavier for the engine which houses the motor and the batteries - still, do take care because there are some parts that are flimsy plastic and could be broken off3) The tracks are simple to put together and take apart and work with and create a variety of designs, including the three that come on the box4) The train runs so smoothly, both forward and backward5) The train is very responsive to the controller6) The train cars are really easy to connect and disconnect7) When on, it produces an ambient "train running on tracks" sound8) There is a song that plays when you hit the note button9) There is a train whistle that plays when you hit the bell button10) There is a sound that plays indicating an announcement is coming when you hit the whistle button11) There is a button by the battery compartment that you can depress to release the battery trayCons:1) Activating special announcements in the product description just means that it has a tone that plays, you have to make your own announcements in real time. On the box it says "custom" announcements which made me think I could record an announcement, this is not possible.2) The instructions are printed on the box. This is not terrible for me because I plan on storing it in the box and the instructions are fairly self explanatory but there were a couple things I think could have been explained in a single page instruction, if provided.3) There is no volume control and it is a bit louder than I would like it to be. It would be nice to have it running in the background without any ambient noise, but that is not an option.

This model train set is perfect for under the Christmas tree. It is a beautiful and fully featured train set. I really like the remote and how responsive it is. It has an amazing build quality and the bell is super cute.

I ordered this so the grandkids can play with it on Christmas Day. Just opened the box only to discover there are no straight tracks. So what’s left is just a small circle with a big train going around and around. I was not planning on putting it under my tree, I wanted a longer oval track. It’s too late now to do do anything about it before Christmas. How disappointing that the company has such poor quality control. I will be sending it back.

Very dissatisfied it doesn’t stay on the track. Keeps coming off.

We have a couple of trains from this brand and this measure ups. It’s soo pretty and works great for around our Christmas tree. Easy to set up and use.

The media could not be loaded.  My son loves trains, and I thought it would be fun to have one for under the Christmas tree. This is a great train - much larger than expected - and it makes a ton of sounds. My kids both love the remote control, and it's provided hours of fun already. I'd absolutely recommend this for anyone who loves trains and/or wants to incorporate a Christmas train into their holiday decor.
