This is an essential "buy" for anyone who admiresthe work of the lyricists who have made memorable so many great tunes with the inventiveness - and often thepoetry - of their words. The greatest songs have become "standards" because of the familiarity andaffection they have engendered in the public domain.It's a pity that some are absent from this otherwiseexcellent concept. I would have awarded it 5 starsotherwise. I know that more recent songs have theirdevotees but the lyrics are not always as clever or aserudite, let alone able to touch the emotions as readily as their predecessors. But this is a qualitysoftback publication and deserves its place on thebookshelf of any lover of popular music.
