I trim my baby’s nails with a file. Afterwards his nails are sharp. Will this help smooth the nails out so they are short and smooth?

You won’t need to file his nails, this will gently file them down and they are not sharp at the ends.

I have a question about the case. Does the hinge have an opening or is it all covered in plastic? Just want to make sure the plastic didn't break off.

The clippers and attachments fit in slots in case. Press button on side to open. Top of case lays flat when fully open. Not sure if that is what you were asking?
