It's a "TV" mini-series.3.5 stars. Only if you like the genre and story line.Swayze looks old, not so good.Doody looks 40ish and beautiful.Some action is OK, some is lame. Some TV shoot a lot, rarely hit anything, not too much though.Swayze carries a lever action rifle. He wears a bandolier around his neck that has no bullets for his rifle. Similar to Steve McQueen in wanted dead or alive TV series.Swayze pulls and drops a "pointed round" (cannot be used in a tube loading rifle. Explosion hazard. Tip must be "rounded") on the ground to leave a "trail". Scenes later round is replaced.One of the main fight scene, he gets hit with war club several times and survives.Again, TV show.Great scenery.Casting for some of the natives and dancing done poorly.I'd say worth watching.The Stewart Granger 1950 movie version is a better choice.

I wasn't expecting much out of this movie but a nice entertaining afternoon and so I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. I felt as though I was on a safari in Africa - jungles, deserts, tribes, animals - without the bugs, the dangers and the heat. This movie takes full advantage of blu-ray, showing the colorful beauty of Africa, the animals and the people, the marketplace and the varying environments. It treats the African people with respect, rather than as nameless bearers just there to carry stuff. Patrick Swayze does a good job as Quartermain - looking travel worn, but sincerely honest and a man you can root for. Allison Doody (terrible name) does a much better job of this role than she did in Indiana Jones 3. She keeps the focus on rescuing her father and not searching for riches. This was not a 'rescue the girl' movie but a 'girl rescues her father'. Although the men have a prejudice about taking her into the wilderness (which was natural for the time period) she demonstrates that she is tougher than she looks. I liked Roy Marsden as Captain Good (another terrible name) and I thought he developed a good arc for his character as he loosened up from a prim British officer to a 'regular guy'. The politics of the Africans was an interesting subplot, as was the Russian involvement in the search for the 'mines'. All in all, this is a keeper for my collection of period adventure movies. If you don't expect too much of it and sit back and relax, I think you may enjoy it.

I enjoyed this good action movie.

This movie stars the late Patrick Swayze as Alan Quartermain who has been hired by an Englishwoman to rescue her father from an African tribe who will trade him for a map he sent his daughter that reveals how to find the legendary gold mines of King Solomon where a equally legendary object will give he who possesses it the power to rule the world. The adventures and dangers he encounters along the way are exciting and keep you rooting for him against his wicked rivals. He does manage to save the gentleman and do as requested regarding the sacred object. This movie is good and Swayze did an equally good job playing Quartermain. Teenagers on up are my best guess for audience appeal. Some fighting and shooting at both animals and people are shown. While there is romance between Quartermain and the young lady, there is no nudity or sex. Just a lot of adventure and danger lurking around the corner as they reach their goals.

I absolutley loved this movie I watch it all the time? Alot of my decisionabout movies that I choose to watch is do to the actor? And I will say thatI am and will always be a fan of Patrick Swayze. Even tho he is no longerwith us, he is in memory.I have watched King Solomon's Mines before but never with him in it? I likethe way the story is told? And the event's that occur in the movie. It isjust a great movie to watch. And I will continue to watch the movie.

I really and truly like to watch ACTION movies. So I am a fan of other Patrick Swayze movies such as" Road House" and "Next of Kin", but this may be my favorite movie that he stars in. First of all this is 3 minutes short of 3 hours with an excellent story line to maintain your interest. All of the actors are fantastic and you cannot help but grow an attachment to several of them. This is an excellent family friendly movie for all ages. This film has plenty of suspense and action for folks like myself, a love story for the women of the house and a little history for the children in the house. Now in all honesty it does not have nearly the amount of action that "Road House" or "Next of Kin" has but it has enough to carry you through the film. Also, in all fairness the women may not like this as much as Patrick's other movies, "Dirty Dancing" or "Ghost". So King Solomon's Mines is the best of both worlds for everyone.

Co m pares very favorably with version with Stewart Granger/Deborah Kerr. Slight variation in story . Patrick Swazey wife was killed in Africa by lions, he sent his so n to be raised by relatives, returning to England, his relatives refuse to give up guardianship and a court battle would be very costly. An American lady wants to rescue her father, in return fo r his release she must hand over a map to King Soloman's Mines. As A lan Quartermain he agrees to return to Africa. Roy Marsden also agrees to go. Little do they know that the Russians want the map. Th ey set out following the map. The father has been ki dnapped by Twalla who. Has a female witch doctor. They also have a strange tall African who. Is following them. Th is version is quite good. Highly recommended. Great scenes of African countryside.

sadly missed a great actor , singer and dancer , most think of this icon in dirty dancing , he has made great movies but would for sure recommend KING SOLOMNS MINES to watch .
