Jaws: Memories from Marthas Vineyard: A Definitive Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Greatest Suspense Thriller of All Time

This is an essential purchase or gift for anyone remotely interested in behind the scenes movie making or anyone that has a love of the movie itself. Lots of photos and anecdotes from the production. Highly recommended. Would have liked a more 'premium' cover design but that is nitpicking.

Awesome,awesome,awesome!😃🙌🏻 Been after this book for over 5yrs and finally took the plunge and so,so worth it.Plus,it's the revised edition,which makes it so special.🤗 Jaws then.For me,still my favourite movie,50yrs on since I watched it aged 5 and a bit on it's original theatrical release back in '75.I've seen hun of 5⭐ since,but Jaws is the Daddy,the Mother of ALL Summer blockbusters and let's be honest here,it IS one of Cinema's greatest ever movies.🎥👌🏻 This wonderful book digs deep into the lore and mythology of this classic and boy...is rewarding.😊

There are loads of documentaries and books that chronicle the making of Jaws [DVD] [1976 ]. Perhaps The Jaws Log (Newmarket Insider Filmbooks) is regarded as the king above all and justifiably so. Author and screenwriter (and as Meadows, actor) Carl Gottlieb documented what he saw day to day and every other book on the subject rides on its wake. Until now that is. Like i said there ARE loads of documentaries and books about the making of Jaws. So many that a Jaws fan probably feels they were on Marthas Vineyard. The problems with the mechanical shark to Robert Shaw's drinking (understandable when his personal life at the time is taken in to account). The documentary The Shark Is Still Working, which promises to be the definitive making of, STILL sits on a shelf somewhere looking for a release but tied up with copyright. Jaws fans are pretty much tired of waiting. At the end of the day it will tell those same stories by those same faces and will then sit on the fans shelf next to Jaws: The Inside Story [DVD ] which itself feels pretty definitive. Jaws: Memories from Martha's Vineyard is like a breath of fresh sea air. There is almost so much to take in that its strangely hard to review. First of all its BIG. It FEELS like you have something before you that you never imagined you ever would. Page after page of rare stills and tales of the Marthas Vineyard locals who accidently ended up in a classic! Even Pippet the dog gets a section! Fans know some of the stories but there is enough here to please even the hardest to please fan. The stills are superb. The text is excellent. This IS definitive. No other book about the making of Jaws could possibly match this. The Jaws Log is what it is and untouchable. An insiders diary of the making of the movie and a classic. Very much one mans take on things. Jaws: Memories from Martha's Vineyard feels like everyone else standing up and telling you it from their, in many cases, never before heard side of things. It feels fresh and new and Jaws fans will LOVE this. So much to read and look at and take in. In the authors foreward he writes that as the book was about to be published so many more stills and memories were STILL turning up that a possible future expanded edition might be a possibility! You couldnt cram much more into this book so a second would be welcome. As Jaws fans will agree a third and fourth instalment may not be such a great idea... The original hardback comes slipcased with a DVD of unseen footage (bound to turn up on YouTube) and a piece of the ORCA but dont be put off by this edition coming with just what it is because what it is is a Jaws fans best ever Christmas present and like it says on the cover notes "You're gonna need a bigger coffee table..." Superb!

Fantastic book for all Jaws fans

This has to be the best book on a movie ever. It's a huge paperback absolutely crammed with photographs, stills and sections from newspaper articles from the time (particularly the Vineyard Gazette). The chapters are arranged in order of the scenes filmed and the book is mostly in sections written by a few members of the cast and crew (e.g. Joe Alves [Production Designer], Lynn and Susan Murphy [Special Effects], Shari Rhodes [Location Casting Director] and Lee Fierro [who played Mrs Kintner] to name but five). I think one of the main reasons this book is just so good is that many of the stories and photos are from Islanders' who helped with the movie itself. Matt Taylor and Jim Beller are to be congratulated wholeheartedly for the time and money they must have spent finding all of this stuff and making it into such a wonderful book for JAWS fans everywhere! You've both done a marvellous job and should be very proud! I read every single part of this book and if you are a JAWS fan like myself you just have to buy it!

My wife is a jaws super fan. We very often watch it because it’s such an amazing film. I bought this along with a whole other load of jaws stuff (mugs, autographs, posters, toys, books) as part of her Christmas presents in 2020, her desk in her office could not be more jaws even if Bruce was laying on it! This is another book that includes a lot of imagery about the shooting of the film in Martha’s Vineyard. There were a number of troubles that happened through the entire filming schedule and the residents of Martha’s Vineyard had this filming taking place in their town while they went arbour their normal daily lives.

This was a Christmas gift for my son to add to his collection of movie behind the scenes books and he regarded it as a great addition to same.

What a book! Got this for Father's Day and blew me away. I love Jaws and clearly remember the furore it generated on it's release back in the day and I suppose this has gone someway to contributing to my fascination with this film and the very happy and innocent time of my life it encapsulates. This book is everything it claims to be and more. Often I'll order a book and occasionally feel a little let down. Not with this book. Every thing about it is excellent from the photographs, both professional and those from the locals, to the anecdotal insights into the films production. I genuinely believe that you don't have to be either into Jaws or a film buff to enjoy this book-just ask my wife and kids.

Raramente ho avuto la possibilità di metter mano ad un opera così completa. Il volume è assolutamente perfetto sotto ogni punto di vista. Dalla carta utilizzata all' impaginatura e soprattutto per qualità del suo contenuto. Dentro è un tripudio di articoli e foto relative al film capolavoro di Spielberg. Tutto ma veramente tutto ciò che un fan del film può desiderare viene abilmente trattato dall' autore. Il volume, diviso in capitoli, narra di come è nata l'idea è di come questa sia stata sviluppata, tramite interviste, aneddoti e note del cast e dei produttori. Un volume da AVERE ASSOLUTAMENTE per chiunque ami il film ma anche a chi ama il grande cinema. La spesa è ampiamente ripagata da una qualità di edizione che, a mio avviso, vale molto di più di quello che si fa pagare....un CAPOLAVORO insomma..😉

Great book for fans of Jaws

My dad is a huge Jaws fan and is also 100% sick of me gifting books for every holiday.. he loved this one. Couldn’t stop looking through it. I loved it too! So many photos and so much story behind the movie and the making of it. Definitely worth it!

I've got all three releases of this superb book. Finally a beautiful hardcover version with extra unseen photos. Treasure.

豪華本でイラスト、写真と満載で紙質も良く、英語を読まなくてもまあまあ楽しめます。私は多少読めますが、読めない人も満足できると思います。ブルーレイのメイキングまで見た人には内容がすぐに理解出来るでしょう。いつも思いますが海外のこのようアート本は紙、ページの割には安い。逆に日本は同じくらいのクオリティーならなんであんなに高い？と思いました。
