Nice picture, overall good, basic controls
Overall the picture is good including HD color. Got it set up with my MacBook Pro. Had to set it be the 'main display' in order to get a full 4k full width resolution desktop, otherwise if you make the built-in screen the main one it will mirror a slightly less than 4k res and have black bars at the sides - why Apple didn't produce a proper aspect ratio of 4k is a bit ridiculous, but when you use this monitor as the main screen the MacBook does output a full 4k picture and then adds horizontal bars on the built-in screen. Alternatively of course you can use it as a second desktop. The on-screen display is fairly intuitive and easy to use. However I would describe it also as a little basic, there isn't really a great way to fine-tune much. Also there is a feature called smart contrast which I am finding very annoying. Basically it senses what's on the screen and adjusts the display brightness/backlight, which means as you open windows and close things etc the whole display adjusts its contrast/brightness and whites keep going up and down accordingly. Add more while parts to the screen and the whole screen dims. The only way to keep the same levels at all times is to switch off the Smart mode and go into basic mode which also means you can't use HD color, which sucks. I'm getting used to it constantly adjusting stuff but it means I can't be sure if I'm seeing a consistent brightness for things which is a turnoff and sometimes a problem. They should have had a separate setting to switch off this feature.Apparently there's software you can download fro Philips for windows to further fine-tune or adjust the monitor but its not available for Mac.Input switching works fine. There's al little remote control as well. Adjusting brightness and volume up/down is very slow to adjust, although there's a little physical widget button on the back of the monitor which can operate most things and adjusts these much faster.Sound quality is not great and is a fair let-down .... it's sounds like there's one central speaker in the middle of the display, doesn't seem like stereo, is lightweight and doesn't have much bass either. You'll want to get some external speakers hooked up instead.Plenty of inputs, my MacBook worked fine with usb C and also HDMI.The stand adjusts reasonable well though I don't like how it has massive legs that stick out diagonally on the desk taking up a lot of space unnecessarily, when a flatter central base would've been better, or separate legs toward the outer edges of the panel. The back of the monitor is white-ish which is unusual and, and a bit plasticy. I almost broke it off trying to lift it since the screen is fairly heavy especially with the stand attached. Stand goes up and down, swivels left to right, and tips up down.Overall it's pretty good and usually satisfactory to use despite these few niggles. Really wish I could turn off the smart contrast though.Oh btw it has LED's on the back which is a very unusual feature but quite interesting.... you can adjust how they operate and what they show etc, it can match your video output somewhat, and adjust brightness, as well as other modes. I did find though that sometimes this light is distracting when watching a movie etc even if it matches the movie because it lights up the wall behind. But you can turn it off if you want.Picture quality and color and so on I would say is very good once you get it right. MacBook has to be put into HD color mode and the smart monitor mode has to be put into 'personal' otherwise it'll distort the colors and stuff. At this screen size the text is a good size for reading and there's simply a lot more screen space to put stuff. You get like four 21" HD screens next to each other in a grid formation so if you put windows in each corner they are a decent size, web pages can fit at an ideal size in a browser, and so on. I found this to be better than my old 32" screen which was a bit too small to let web pages have full room to breathe.Overall would recommend it though with a few quirks that could be a bit better.
