It works
It is little hard to put on due to the opening of the teapot but it will depend on the design of teapot. The one that we put this in has a narrow teapot top cover and so it took us a while with help of a tweezer to put it in. However, once it is in, it works great. Once installed, I don't think we have to take it out and so it is worth the time and effort to out it in.

A challenge to insert
We are tea lovers and have used many different kinds of filters. We used this one in a regular teapot, not specifically a Japanese teapot. I don’t know if that would make a difference, because we found it impossible to insert into the spout as shown. You might need tweezers to push the filter up far enough. Maybe the recommended type of teapot has a narrower spout. We were unable to test it in use, but it seems like a well made device for what it is. The holes seem large enough to allow a good flow of water through. If you use broken leaf tea, some of the smaller particles might flow through as well. I think it would work ok with a nice full leaf tea. I also don’t know if the leaves would tend to collect next to the filter, restricting the water flow.
