This knife polishing compound has the consistency of toothpaste, allowing it to be easily spread onto a leather strop. A little mineral or olive oil may be added to the paste and mixed before use, to allow it to be spread more easily, if desired. The white compound is aluminum oxide based, with a grade of 9000 grit. The green paste is chromium oxide based, and is rated at .5 micron, which is the equivalent of approximately 50,000 grit. The green is typically applied to the smooth, epidermis side of the leather, and the white to the rough, suede side, but either may be used as desired. In most cases, a very thin layer of compound applied to the strop with your finger will be ideal, but everyone develops their own technique which works best for them. After loading the leather, draw the knife blade away from the edge along the strop with the spine of the knife lifted at a very low angle. Always try to match exactly the angle to which the blade edge was originally sharpened. This is in most cases between 12 degrees and 22 degrees. Various stropping methods may be observed by watching the many YouTube videos on the subject. Practice, until you discover a manner which works best for you. With use, the leather will quickly develop a dark sheen on top, which is composed of extremely fine particles of metal and oxides removed from the blade steel of your knives during the polishing process. Old, used up stropping compound can be removed from the leather with a soft rag or paper towel dabbed in rubbing alcohol. Let the leather dry a half hour before re-charging again with fresh paste. This stropping compound will allow you to put a razor sharp edge on all of your favorite kitchen, hunting, and fishing utensils.

Much easier to use than hard bar compounds
Perfect for a double sided strop, and much easier to use than the waxy hard bars. I just used a gloved finger to apply the compound and get it rubbed in to the leather.I use this for a carving knife strop and with regular use haven’t had to go back to the sharpening stones for far longer than usual.

Hard to apply evenly...Messy
I like the blocks better for stropping.
