The ghost in the mansion
Ms Blackwell did it again, Annabel is a wonderful character in this book and I fell in love with her from the beginning to the end. It kept me guessing who the murderer was till the end. Highly recommend this book to everyone who enjoys the paranormal.

Excellent writing, cozy characters
The series is growing on me. I like Mel and her family, and especially sweet Dog. The book was very cozy and I loved curling up with it at the end of the long day. However, this is the second book in the series that has a bit of a let-down ending. The villain is not so much of an "ah ha!" as it is kind of like "oh... which one was that again?" I'm going to give the next book in the series of try, because I'm curious to see how the characters develop and where their story is go. Also, it's a very cozy and well-written book. I just hope that the villain has more of a thrill factor.

In this book we find Mel Turner biding a renovation job in San Francisco Castro district. The house has a history of ghosts and the new owners plan on creating a haunted bed and breakfast establishment. Mel needed to spend a night in the house in order to win the bid. A young girl, Annabelle meets Mel as she enters the house for the first time. Mel is startled to learn that Annabelle does in the 1800's. The night, Mel and her competitor, Josh are spending the night, the owner of the house, Mrs. Bernini is found dead in a well. Mel seeking answers for death explores several avenues. The owner of the house is in dispute. The toy room is usually locked but whenever it is open the ghosts are busy. Can ghosts hurt or kill a person? Mel needs an answer before in order to win the contract. I highly recommend this book and series.

Cozy mystery
Blackwell character development is subtle. The protagonist, Mel has already changed and continues to evolve. The story has enough twists and turns to be interesting.

Light and fun reading
If you enjoy home remodeling, San Francisco, and female protagonists, this book is a nice read. Not great literature, but a good addition to this series.

A .nice murder mystery...
While Mel sharpens her ghost hunting skills it is a question throughout the story of just who is telling the truth. You never really know until the end.

Mel Turner is looking forward to submitting a bid for the renovation of an historic home to a bed-and-breakfast inn. When she meets with the current owner, she quickly discovers that the house also appears to be haunted...a fact she can attest to as the ghostly child Anabelle is the one who greeted her at the door. In order to win the contract, Mel and Josh, the competing contractor, must spend a night in this "haunted" house. While this seems unusual, Mel agrees and complete with two friends sets out to spend the evening and explore the house to complete her renovation plans. Unfortunately, during this sleepover the elderly owner is murdered and now Mel must not only compete for the contracting job, but also resolve the issue of the murder.
