Wifi temperature monitor

I brought this as I wanted to remotely monitor the temperature of my hot water tank. Easy to install, worked first time and temperature seems to be reasonably accurate. Paired it with “Smart Life” app and now I can see the tank temperature remotely. Important note, that this unit does require an external power supply for continuous operation.

I'll start this review with a warning: I am a geek and don't apologise for that. We have recently moved house and have an air source heat pump and sometimes the hot water seems tepid instead of hot. I wanted some way to monitor the water temperature in the hot water tank 24/7 and this promised to do exactly that. The setup was easy: install an app, pair the device with your phone, connect to the home WiFi and it was working. I installed it in a stat pocket in the tank (designed for this exact purpose) and it all works. The probe goes into the pocket and the meter attaches to the tank magnetically. It has a very obvious and bright red display (no problem for me as my water tank is in the garage but if this were in my bedroom at night it would drive me mad). It all couples to the Tuya IoT platform so I can actually monitor it myself and control other parts of the system based on its output.

Took two/ three goes to pair device but so far it working great, brilliant display with back ground light. Fitted 13 amp socket in my hot press so I could keep USB lead connected so I didn’t need to use just the battery & thus worry about having to charge. Got it connected to Alexa but waste of time as I was hoping that Alexa could advise on temperature reading, this option was not available so I don’t see what use Alexa is? I connected device to my existing smart home app and device worked first time. I now have smart switch on control of my hot water system and now temperature reading all from my mobile phone.

Needed a WiFi based sensor that didn't rely on batteries for a freezer temperature alarm. This has a good clear display and also works with Alexa. I already have a Tuya smart hub, so it installed easily. Could do with a longer power lead though.

The device powered up and gave a good temperature reading, however I spent a lot of time trying to add it to my Tuya app. No matter how far it was from my router the device failed to connect, I checked and rechecked the password and ensured 2.4 g not 5G but still failed so returned and thanks to Amazon received a full refund the next day. Maybe one faulty one as it was obviously new and unopened, not already returned. I have several other devices on my Tuya app and have since added another with no issues.

Easy to link to wifi, good indication with smart life app. Power lead included but no USB supply.

I liked that is small, with a bit of autonomy/battery, but after about 3 weeks it started going offline every now and then. Now is completely offline and I doesn't want return. Unfortunately the unit is in another country and I can't return it.

Installed to monitor water temperature in hot press - very easy to setup and reliable to run, no downs for almost a year now. All managed with Tuya Smart app which offers a huge variety of other smart devices if you would like to have everything in one app.

I use these to monitor the water temperatures on my boiler remotely and they work good and are easy to setup if you use the bluetooth on your phone for setup and have decent wifi for the data connection(tuya app)
