MaxxHaul 50833 2 x 2 inch Trailer Hitch Receiver Extender 7 inch Hitch Extension Length 3500 Lbs GTW

Needed this to extend my hitch to support a bike carrier in my Land Rover Defender with mounted spare tire on the back. Works perfectly, good quality, easy to take on and off. Note: I purchased a separate locking pin so I would still have my bike rack when I returned from my cycle trip! (it only comes with a steel bar and cotter pin to hold it in).

I used this 7" hitch extender for a Thule ReVert bike track on a 2026 Ram 1500. Initially the vertical bike rack didn't clear the tailgate. Hitch extender wobbled a bit. Purchased a stabilizer and locking pin as well. It's solid now and clears the bed almost exactly. I'll update this review if it gives me fits, but with the stabilizer, shouldn't be an issue.

Update 9/9/25: I learned a lesson on this purchase and it's my fault, not the product. Rating updated to 5 stars. The purpose of this extender is to allow an accessory to be used (such as a bike rack or cargo carrier) where an object like a spare tire might prevent it from fitting. I was trying to use a tow hitch in the extender on a UTV, not for towing, but to mount a set of backup lights to and the gussets on the receiver prevented the light bracket from fitting properly. It is my understanding that an extension is NOT to be used for towing (which makes perfect sense really) and that's why the holes don't line up. Lesson learned! Appeared to be of high quality and fit right into my 2” receiver. Unfortunately, the hole on the outside end is about 1/4” off and I can’t install my hitch or bike rack. Returned it and trying a different brand.

The product was exactly as I expected. It fits the receiver perfectly. Shipping was overnight as Amazon said it would be. If you need a short extension for your vehicle I would recommend this company and their product.

Brought this part to extend my receiver hitch and in big writing it says not for towing so what the hell is it for? why would you sell a product for a towbar, then say not for towing?

Disappointing to say the least. The two halves of square pipe were welded with a twist and if used with something like a bike rack or platform, it'll have a major angle to it. In addition the welding is only on the outside and the inside is unwelded. There's been plenty of reports of these failing at the weld point so I'd expect them to find a way to weld on the inside for proper safety? Anyhow, I ended up returning it and just using the bike rack as-is and just tilting the bike rack away from the car.
