Enjoyable and written by a human
This is (if you haven't already read the blurb) a rough guide to working for yourself and tailoring your life to what suits you best. The author is warm, comes off as knowledgeable and has several interesting case studies. My one grumble about this ad other books of its ilk are that they've all been written (or seem to) by folk who are in well-paid jobs who are escaping the office world, so it's a bit difficult to relate to when your own life is somewhat different. That said, it's encouraging to know that there is far more to life than being a slave to the wage.I would recommend this book as there's a bit of information about the practical side of things too - registering as a business, tax and so on, which so many books seem to neglect.

Brilliant for those who feel there must be more to life, and don't fit (or don't want to fit) into the traditional corporate mou
Brilliant book that resonates with people who don't fit into the corporate world or a world that embraces only a few of your talents and squashes the rest down. It teaches you that actually it's ok to have more than one idea and prototyping those doesn't have to be expensive or time consuming. It's inspirational because it doesn't put you in a box (or 'cage' as its referred to here) hence the 'free range' element. Great for people who are scared to break the traditional view that you work all your life peppered with sporadic elements of fun (the once a year holiday and weekends) and be prepared to look at life a little differently. Never has there been a better time to make money without having to be a corporate slave. Highly recommended.

If you've had enough of your current job, but can't find the "one thing" that'll free you from being an employee, this is the book for you. Trying to find that "one thing" always filled me with dread...now I know that I'd just be trading one job for another even though I'd be working for myself I'd be tied to one thing. Now I'm feeling so free know that I don't have to do that anymore. I can have several ideas on the go at once and it's so liberating. I can write when I'd prefer to write (like three am while I'm writing this review) or I can sew some projects I want to include on my prospective website (this book has inspired and fired me enough that I'll be crossing that off my list by the end of the week!)If you want to escape from being tied to employment get this book...I'm teaching my kids the principles taught here (they're too cool to be caught reading one of mum's books!) so they can start their free range life now!

Excellent Motivational Book
I bought this book as I own it on Audible and it was so good, I wanted the hard copy version too. If you are unhappy in your job or on the precipice of a new venture then this book is for you. The author is witty and sincere, and the exercises are thought provoking and progressive. The only down side for me was that some of the book is very corporate orientated, and if you don't come from the corporate world, you may find small sections do not really apply. Having said that, I have given this a five star review as there are lots of other chapters for everyone from every background. You won't need any other book after this one, it has everything you need to get started. I'm not saying you will be walking out of your job by next week, it's not a miracle worker! However it's a fantastic start and will provide you with lots of ideas, resources, motivation and hope for the future. Just buy it!!

Helps you walk the walk, not just talk about it
I loved this book and had great fun being profiled in it (the chapter on branding). I've been a fan of Marianne's work for a few years now, I've not found many others who care so much and are so passionate about helping people to create a working life that fits in with everything they've wanted.I bought copies for Mr Jen and for a friend who has a great business but who I can see being even more amazing than she already is.The book is comprehensive in that it isn't just for people who have a business and want to make it bigger, but for anyone sitting there, like I used to, at their desk thinking the best things that can happen to them at work are:1. coffee break2. lunch3, going homeThere IS more to life - this book helps you to identify what a great life looks like to YOU then helps you go get it. Highly recommended.

An inspiration.
This book takes you through exercises that evaluate what your ideal working life would be like, and then challenges the reasons you have for not thinking this life is possible. Once it has got you thinking - and really inspired - the rest of the book is full of practical information and advice to support you in pursuing what you really want to do.If you spend any part of your working day thinking "there must be more to life than this" this book is for you. Reading it was like having someone answer a lot of questions I already had in my mind.

This excellent book (also worth a listen as an audio book) ...
This excellent book (also worth a listen as an audio book) is packed full of ideas to inspire any aspiring escapee from the 'big corporate' world - a world habited by what Marianne describes as the 'beige army' of nay sayers. Very funny . . . and very true. But this is no book for dreamers - Marianne exposes the very real risks of 'taking off' (on a new life without a steady income) alongside the more obvious benefits and she offers plenty of ideas to minimise those risks. This intelligently written book is also a lot of fun to read and Marianne has a great sense of humour. There's no need to 'dream' about your future escape - just quietly start making some plans and grab this book as one of your maps to start exploring and planning your way.

Probably suits a person in marketing who has side projects. Really it's just behavioral level rather than character level stuff.
