This is truly a fantastic bargain. Having read all of these books many years ago, when they actually came out, it is a pleasure to own them all in attractive paperback binding and in common format. In the past, I could only find them in either paperback (while the old series was underway in the 1970s) and later in a variety of formats. Bookstores didn't regularly carry them, so I had to find them at libraries and borrow rather than own. Now, I have them all at last and for a very reasonable price. --- The author began the series many decades ago, long before it was popularized with the PBS series of the 1970s. The books take you into the copper mining and commerce industries of Cornwall during the period from 1783 to 1799 -- When a relatively impoverished member of the gentry, Captain Ross Poldark returns from captivity and presumed death during service with the British Army in North America in late 1783. His improbable, but highly successful marriage to a miner's daughter and rise to eminence as a miner and leader of society in Cornwall involves the novels ROSS POLDARK, DEMELZA, JEREMY POLDARK, WARLEGGEN, BLACK MOON, FOUR SWANS and ANGRY TIDE. As a new member of Parliament near the end of this series he begins to rub shoulders with some of the nobility and national political leaders. Novels begin again with the year 1810 amid the Napoleonic Wars and on to 1820 -- STRANGER FROM THE SEA, MILLER'S DANCE, LOVING CUP, TWISTED SWORD (1815 - Battle of Waterloo) and finally concludes with BELLA POLDARK (1818-20). Poldark's children are growing up and getting into adventures and scrapes of their own. Ross rises to a Baronetcy (Warleggen is only Knight), and meets with such figures as the Prince Regent and future Prime Minister George Canning. This is a great series and Graham was masterful and accurate writer of historical fiction. At $69 for the entire set, it is a super bargain.

I had seen the recent Masterpiece production (concluded in 2019 but I only watched it this year). As it was based on the books I sought out the first book in the local library. Then I couldn't borrow the others so bought this complete set. It was interesting to me to see the long span of years between the writing of the books. The Masterpiece production only goes to the first four or five books and is pretty faithful to the story until it diverges in the last season. The story through the remaining books continued to be compelling (to me) and I suppose it didn't hurt that I could envision Ross, Demelza, Dwight, Caroline, George from the television production. Obviously had to use my imagination with the next generation. Without any spoilers I thought the wrapping up of the storylines of the various characters was very satisfying. BTW I am now watching the 1975 version of Poldark on DVD and oh, unless you really love the story (as I do) it is a disappointment compared to the more recent production. But that won't actually stop me. :-)

Great series! The first few books follow the PBS series, but after the fourth volume, the story takes a totally new turn, far from the TV rendition. Extremely enjoyable, beautifully written, and compelling. The historic background is fascinating, and deeply and beautifully well-researched.

I'm still reading the series and I have a long way to go. I find myself picturing the characters and remembering the PBS series. The books are filling out the PBS series and bringing it to life more. Excellent read! So glad I bought the books. The books arrived wrapped in plastic and in brand new condition!. Very happy I made this purchase!

My husband and I are big fans of the Poldark series. We are nearing the end of the series and want to know what happens next. We are also avid readers, so we decided to get the books. I ordered them thinking they would be the mass market size books due to the price. The books came the next day and to our surprise, found them to be trade (Larger) size and in stores, more expensive. A trade paperback usually is priced between $14.95-17.95. These books average out to under $6.00 They came shrink wrapped in a slipcase to hold all twelve volumes. What a great deal! We can't wait to start reading them.

These books represent many hours of entertainment. The author demonstrates a true mastery of the Cornwall area, mining operations, and late 18th century-early19th century English lifestyles. It is especially interesting as a backdrop for the American Revolutionary War and the French War of Independence and Napoleon's subsequent rise. I am amazed that I was not aware of his work before the current PBS Poldark series. This author also demonstrates a superb literary ability--a true command of the language and his story-telling craft. My only regret is having to purchase 12 paperback books, even though 12 books at his price is a bargain. I would have preferred to purchase Kindle versions at the same price.

I'm a big fan of the current Poldark series on PBS. This purchase was an impulse buy. I wanted to experience Winston Graham's writing and to see what became of the characters. I began reading the first novel the day I received them and completed all 12 novels in 4 weeks time. Your rate of reading may vary but I am a fast reader and I am retired and spent more time reading than I usually do. I will not give anything away but I loved all the novels and found them very satisfying. This is my favorite kind of read..sweeping family sagas that bring an historical period to life undergirded with excellent research.

This is a great bargain for the entire Poldark series. I have not read all yet, but so far I love them. They take you to another place and time. Romance, adventure, this series has it all. You'll find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat, sometimes laughing, sometimes crying, but never bored or disinterested.

I am only on the second book but I am enjoying the series. I read the first 6 books 25 years ago and it was great to be able to get the 12 book series at a reasonable price. I'm looking forward to reading the whole series. I also bought the DVD.
