Potassium Fertilizer

We live in Hawaii and have a small farm. We have coffee, citrus, pineapples, and many other vegetables. Every one needs a difference balance of nutrients. So, I have gotten into the habit of mixing what I need. I start with a balanced 10-10-10 or 16-16-16 fertilizer and then add the different (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) components to get the balance I need for each type of plant. The added bonus is being able to change the ratios for the off season versus the fruiting seasons. This product is solid quality and a good size for my needs. It really has helped with plant growth, fruit development, and the overall health of the plants. It is a very good value ror the money.

Most fertilizers have too much nitrogen, so you get huge green bushy tomato plants, and few ripe tomatoes. This year I am blending in more potassium and phosphate to try and get more ripe fruit. Seems to be working on my early plants. Just don't overdo it and burn them.

I got this for my vegetable garden because it says that it will help with the amending of the soil. I'm not sure how well it works yet because I haven't been able to use it but I have heard great things about the potash so I'm hoping that it lives up to all of the hype. I do think that for the amount of product you get the prices decent. if this gives me a good harvest, I definitely will update my review to say how well it really does work.

Growing my own food has been a challenge since moving to our lake property in rural Florida. Our soil is a combination of sugar sand and silt. My efforts to amend the soil with mulched leaves and compost are ongoing. Unfortunately, any nutrients in the amendments are soon leached away into the sandy soil by the rain. Supplemental side dressing with fertilizer is necessary. Potassium and phosphorus are the two main nutrients that stimulate root growth. I'm using Muriate of Potash plus Super Phosphate to grow sweet potatoes, jicama and peanuts. Also using it on my leafy green veggies and tomato plants. The roots need an extra boost for the plants to survive and thrive in Florida (zone 9b). Application rate for Muriate of Potash: soil drench - mix 1 to 2 tbsp/gal water side dress - 8oz/100sq ft
