This is a tender subject but I am writing this review to help others in the same situation as me. I got this biodegradable urn to “bury” my husband’s ashes at sea, in a ceremony conducted on a cruise ship. This urn is heavy and fine quality cardboard/paper and has a pearlescent sheen to it. It comes with a certificate that it’s biodegradable which was accepted by the cruise ship in order to allow it to be released from the ship. I got the small size urn so that I could split the ashes—I would estimate that the small box holds maybe 40 percent of the ashes of a 160 pound adult. The small size is a good option if you want to retain a portion of the ashes in a full or child size urn—both also sold by Amazon. The small size is also a good option to keep it from being too heavy when filled with the cremains (even the small size is surprisingly heavy when filled). This urn was released into the ocean from the rear mooring area of a large cruise ship which was moving fairly quickly at the time. I was very glad I chose this option to prevent a situation where ashes could blow back onto the ship—that did not happen. This biodegradable urn performed perfectly and sank immediately. This product was excellent and I would highly recommend it. It was a fraction of the price charged by the funeral home for the same thing.

Love this! As the urn landed in the Pacific Ocean it completely "biodegraded". It was amazing. Highly recommend this beautiful urn and burial at sea.

Very nice urn for water burial. It was sturdy and easy to use. Lovely appearance and thematically appropriate for our ceremony. Floated briefly before sinking gently down. Highly recommend.

After scattering my fathers ashes at sea “the old fashioned way” 28 years ago, and having them blow around and watching them just sit on the surface of the water, I knew I didn’t want that experience when it was time for my mothers burial at sea. Especially now that I have a teen son that would be attending. This product worked perfectly. It was easy to transfer the ashes to the biodegradable bag and tie the bag closed. Then I secured the bag in the “inner” box and closed the flaps securely. Finally the outer cover closed and sealed with the enclosed tape. From placing the box in the sea and it floated - there was enough time for each of 5 of us to put flowers in the water one at a time after - and then shortly after the box sank gracefully. This exact product was offered to me by the funeral home at an 800% mark up. FYI.

Used this product during my brother's burial at sea. We were very pleased with the appearance of this container and how it performed in the water. We were concerned it might sink "like a rock" or not sink at all. After I dropped it into the ocean, it floated on top of the water for 20 seconds, then slowly started to sink and, after about 30 seconds total, disappeared from sight. Perfect. We were very glad we used this container and didn't try to scatter the cremains. We read horror stories about ashes blowing back onto the boat or onto people's clothes and that would have happened to us. We scattered rose petals right after placing the container into the water, and about 1/4 of the rose petals ended up on the boat. It was a very peaceful and beautiful burial at sea for my brother.

Worked perfectly for sending my mom off. We did put a few beach rocks in the box to make sure mom didn't come back in with the tide since the box will float due to air in it. Also, the bix started coming apart quickly, which its supposed to do. Happy with how this looked and she would have loved to starfish! We put her in a more rocky area to catch on rocks and make sure she didn't roll up onto the beach (my dad did this, which was kinda funny, so we learned!).

Update: I looked again and found the authentication so I am not sending it back. It was at the very bottom of the box. I'm giving it 5 stats. I know it's biodegradable, but I didn't get a certificate stating that as I needed one for a burial at sea ceremony. I'm sending it back.

I bought the small thinking they would be ok for my husbands ashes, he was under 70kg, no where big enough, has just cost me £21.00 to send it back.

The Urn was easy to close, and quite sturdy, Instructions were explicit. I have to admit that I was skeptical that this Urn would float with the weight of the CR' s within the Urn. I was pleasantly surprised, the Urn did float for a full 10 min before it disappeared slowly beneath the surface of the water. A Beautiful send off

I opted for the starfish design. Description of product was accurate, I would say it was even nicer than I had anticipated. The coral deign has an ever so slightly metallic sheen (not tacky or too loud). Like some have mentioned in the comments, unfortunate circumstances to find yourself having to purchase an urn but I am grateful at how easy and affordable it was.

The urn did not break down. A day later it is still intact. Just garbage and very disappointing. It was a very upsetting thing to have happen. I do not recommend it.
