Q: Is this suitable for a beginner to make?

I have made all of the variations of this pattern and all have turned out well, but I used an over locker and am an experienced seamstress. If you have never sewn before I wouldn't attempt this until you have made some patterns up with non stretch fabric. Hope this helps. Moira
