This 20" mat will certainly see many miles in many states. I ride a motorcycle and camp. I also use a charcoal grill. Grill at least once a month, all 12 months of the year. Also travel to various states kayaking & fishing. I am a 62 year old female who owns a landscaping/pressure washing business. I'll never forget the first time I arrived to quote cleaning then sealing a wooden deck. There was a large burn hole near one of the corners of this deck. I asked the homeowner what had happened? She said her husband was too lazy to empty the ashes before he grilled again. The ashes had piled up on the ash pan under the grill, then spilled out onto the deck continuing to mound. Wife said she came out one morning to let the dog out and the deck was smoldering under their grill. Driving away I laughed so hard I almost had to pull over. Who is that lazy?I have been grilling on my driveway for years. In my new home I wanted to grill on my deck. When I spotted this fireproof mat on Amazon, I knew I had to have it. I use a small (squat) Weber grill and charcoal. I ordered the 20" x 20". Perfect size! This mat is absolutely gorgeous. A beautiful gold with grommet holes (reinforced) in every corner. Although constructed out of fiberglass and insulation, it is very flexible, folding with ease to return it to the storage bag it came with. I have slopped grease on it from a burger or steak. I used a very warm rag with dawn detergent to clean the grease off. Very impressive fireproof mat for $20. This little jewel will travel with me everywhere just like my grill!!! 5 stars

This thin gold fiberglass mat almost seems too pretty to expose to fire, but it stands up well to some heat abuse.The 20x20 size is good for placing under a small grill or personal fire pit and will reasonably insulate the underlying surface. There are metal grommets at each corner that can be used with metal stakes to secure the mat to the ground. Stakes not included.The mat could possibly be used as a fire blanket to smother a small fire, but the larger 40x40 size might be more appropriate for safe smothering and this mat doesn't include a quick-deploy bag. The mat arrives in a little black drawstring pouch and it is easy to refold the mat to store back in the pouch.
