The best bible gift I have ever gifted my daughter, easy to comprehend and the pictures make it not boring to her she is 11years old . Got it as an Easter present.

I am very pleased with this edition of the Bible. It features beautiful illustrations and has nice maps and timelines at the back so this edition would be great not just for children but for adults who never read the Bible before as well.

My wife bought this as a gift for our nephew and has written this review with corresponding pros and cons, to help you when considering your purchase. Pros An abundance of beautiful and historically realistic illustrations that are inline with the appropriate text - brings the bible alive Colourful chapter headings in blue and numbered in green Table of weights and equivalent modern day measures Several coloured maps on glossy paper Chart showing the OT and NT Timelines Presentation page - albeit rather plain A dictionary of bible words A life-help section - although this is very small and could have included many more relevant topics List of contents divided into Old and New Testament sections, as well as a separate list of books in alphabetical order How to use the bible advice page List of illustrations and where to locate them Quality hardback with glossy blue cover depicting a scene of the disciples and the great haul of fish Durable smyth-sewn binding. Cons No index of the specific miracles and parables of jesus No index of key bible verses Words of Jesus are NOT in red Pages are very thin and matte - needed to be slightly thicker for little fingers! No reading plans whatsoever No footnotes or references - text only No book introductions - surprising, as this would have been particularly helpful for kids, for an understanding of the overall theme of each book No information whatsoever on key biblical characters The "Where to find help when..." section is very small and could have covered a much wider range of topics. Overall this is a nice quality bible and with the full text of the ESV translation goes well beyond the stated age range. Suitable for children, teens and adults alike. However, if you are looking for more "helps" and study aids then this is a little disappointing. The reason I dropped a star. Our 10 yr old nephew loves it though, for all the comic book style pictures and the easy to understand modern english. So we are happy enough.

Visually compelling and uses the actual ESV text. Inasmuch as I read and write Biblical Greek, I can say that the New Testament ESV text is a very faithful translation of the original everywhere I have examined it including a book length review of Revelation. I do not read Hebrew or Aramaic, but the translation committee of the Old Testament is a who's who of Hebrew scholars (as is the case for the New Testament committees as well). I prefer an actual translation for children's Bibles; that way, all stories are told in their entirety without all the (otherwise necessary but occasionally less than accurate) editorial one finds in other children's Bibles which at best are paraphrases. Moreover, even young children are surprisingly adept at asking amazing questions when reading from an adult text. Children deserve credit for this amazing faculty, and running into a tough word or phrase is a great way to introduce kids to a lifelong habit of inquiry, question, struggle, and resolution so necessary for critical thinking. I also am very happy with the illustrations. They are remarkably well done. (I am in the process of putting together a watercolor series for the book of Revelation, so I am sensitized to the skill on display in this Bible's illustrations.) This Bible is such a visual joy, I'm thinking of getting another copy just for myself.
