You don't have to climb a mountain for great coffee
Apparently, Mount Kilimanjaro isn't just good for climbing and taking pictures that make your friends jealous. It also produces some pretty interesting coffee. This Tanzanian Peaberry has a rich flavor, a nice aroma, and enough personality to make my usual morning cup seem a little boring. Fortunately, you don't have to hike up a mountain to get it. My knees appreciate that. The flavor description mentions dried fruit, savory chocolate, and orange. That's quite a lineup for something I'm usually drinking while trying to remember where I left my car keys. The chocolate and fruity characteristics work nicely together, although I wouldn't expect it to taste like somebody dropped a chocolate covered orange into your mug. There's also a noticeable acidity, which gives it a little brightness. Not necessarily a bad thing, just something to consider if you prefer your coffee mellow and smooth. It's a medium roast, which I generally enjoy because you can actually taste the coffee instead of whatever happened to it during its final moments in the roaster. There's plenty of flavor without that burnt taste some darker roasts seem determined to provide. The beans are also roasted fresh and sealed right away, which is reassuring. Nobody wants coffee that's been sitting around long enough to qualify for its own retirement plan. I made a pot yesterday when I had a little extra time and figured I'd give this one my full attention. I even skipped adding anything to it for the first few sips, just to see what all those fancy flavor descriptions were talking about. It's a nice change from my everyday coffee, with a little more brightness and complexity. I could see enjoying this on a lazy Saturday morning when I'm not gulping down caffeine while simultaneously looking for my other shoe. Another nice detail is that the company tests its coffee for mold and mycotoxins, which is something I never really thought about until somebody mentioned it. I can't personally verify the laboratory results, but I appreciate the attention to quality. It's a flavorful, interesting coffee with a distinctive character, although the acidity might not appeal to everyone. Definitely worth trying if you're looking an experience beyond your usual coffee, without needing a passport.

Good ground coffee from Africa.
Very good coffee. This is GROUND --- NOT BEANS.

Great flavor but way too finely ground
I was lucky to live on Kauai for a couple of years. The single largest coffee plantation in the United States is located there. That is when I first learned and came to love peaberry coffee. Now it’s my preferred coffee. This is the second I’ve tried from Tanzania and they couldn’t be more different. This is way too finely ground for drip/pour over/french press brewing. It makes for a muddy coffee experience albeit still with great flavor. If you’re looking for a great espresso grind this is for you. If not, there are better options.

I am a big fan of Volcanica's, and this is one of my favs.
Intense. Fills your entire palate with delightful flavor. That volcanic terroir really adds depth. You gotta try this.

Smooth and delicious
Delicious, smooth and fresh coffee. A very reasonable price for the coveted peaberry. Would buy again.
