Great HuD for the money
I installed this Hud on my 2006 BMW X3 to help my teen driver control speed limit when driving. It works right out of the box using OBD2 cable. The image on the windshield is clear in daylight even without using reflector glass, much better during night time. I would recommend everybody to buy it for the money, simple installation and set up , along with features come with it .

Two items, two reviews.
Please note: there are two items here, the reviews are combined for both items. I have purchased them both, and I’ll actually review them both here.First, the actual HUD & display. Easy install (hiding the wire won’t be fun), nice bright display (I haven’t had the chance to try it on a non-overcast day yet, but I know from experience that if I can’t see it, I’ll stick the supplied reflective/tinted film on my windshield and it’ll be great. As another review mentions, if you only want to see part of the display, you can simply cover up the parts you don’t want to see, and trim your tinted film appropriately. I’ve just ordered a second one for our second vehicle. I’ll try to never do without a hud in my vehicle again. Now the smart phone hud screen & mount: it’s ok for use with smart phones, provided you have an app on your phone that has a hud mode. Waze, google maps, and Apple maps DO NOT, so if your chosen app has that mode, or if your Android or jailbroken iPhone has that option, great. If not, you’re out of luck.I actually bought the screen/MOUNT and HUD/Display at the same time, thinking that, if the display were too dark or too high in my pickup truck, I’d use the mount for the HUD unit and voila. What I hadn’t counted on was that Scosche has designed these items to NOT work together. The power/data cable comes out of the HUD unit on the windshield side, which is EXACTLY where the hinge for the screen is on the mount/screen. That pretty well shoots that idea. It’s a shame, because Scosche could very easily have had two great products that work great together. Here’s what they need to change: the input to the HUD unit cannot be on the windshield side, make it on the left, as you sit in the car, preferably with a 90 degree cable on that end, to run the cable along the base of the windshield. Then the two products could work the way they should together. To improve the Mount/screen, they need to redesign the hinge and screen to allow you to elevate the screen away from the base, to allow for a larger projected image. To improve the HUD unit, it would be nice if the two auxiliary displays, which are switchable already, had a selection of Off, for those that don’t want to see their water temp and battery voltage. Also, since the GPS is already there, it would be nice if, even in OBD2 mode, the compass display operated from the GPS. Note that most of my suggestions are software, and could be done now with no change to existing manufactured items. Fix them, Scosche.

Works Great - with a couple of caveats to be aware of
The media could not be loaded. Overall, I really like it with just minor problems1) If you have an ONSTAR contract and get a monthly vehicle status report (email) - Having it pluged into the OBD-II port will block the ONSTAR status check and you will get an email that informs you. So, unplug it a day before and plug it back in after you receive your ONSTAR email2) Erratic power problem. It sometimes does not go on or goes off right after engine start. Unplug and re-insert OBD-II plug to restart it.Lastly, you will need to calibrate the RPM and vehicle speed but it is quite easy - just follow the directions. Also I found the that it has a much better display using the film. However, for my use the night display was too bright so place it as low as possible on the windshield. Also, wearing polarized sun glasses reduce it's brightness on sunny days.

Skip this one
This thing is very cheaply made and I am returning it due to a number of reasons. First off, the top plastic sheet which has the cutouts for the LED lights to shine through and therefore appear as numbers was not lined up and is off a few mm causing the image to be blury and distorted. It is very hard to tell what number is supposed to be showing. Not that this matters much because using GPS mode your speed is delayed so much that it is always off anywhere from 3 to 10 mph. It is just cheaply made and whatever processes the data is too slow to keep up. That's if you can obtain and keep a satellite locked so you can even get a bad speed estimate. The main issue is the power plug and or the internal power source. The plug in is super cheap and has a big ugly cheap button on the top to turn the unit on and off. Well it turns itself on and off at random and I could not find a reason. The unit starts off bright when you first turn it on and then dims and turns off and on whenever it wants to. Returning it asap.

Does what it says - but no auto brightness.
Easy to setup and get working, however it does not get any dimmer at night and is distracting (and dangerous) since it is so bright. The bright colours make it worse - I may follow the advice of others and stick black tape over most of the display since all I want is the sad speed.Sometimes it beeps and seems to reset/reboot while driving.

Useful features and very cool
Best when used on cloudy days or at night. Doesn't display properly when it's super sunny. Worked better when I installed reflective decal inside windshield because my angle isn't raked (drive 1st gen Scion xB). I removed it because on the outside you can see something on windshield and didn't want cops to have an excuse to pull me over. Love that it shows temperature and mpg which my vehicle only provides with dummy lights. My speedo was off by 6-8 mph because I'm running on bigger aftermarket wheels. Displayed correct mph when I switched to GPS mode, but you lose engine stat features.

Was good for a short time.
My car's instrument cluster is in the center of the dash. The time it takes to look over, focus on its small numbers, then focus back on the road just isn't ideal. Nor is it very safe. I found this unit and decided to give it a go.It was super easy to install. Daytime viewing was generally easy to see, though there were certain angles where the sun would hit it and I couldn't make out what the display said very well. The HUD film was easy to apply. The dimming function didn't seem to work at all, making this super bright for night driving.Sadly, this unit didn't last me very long. The display became unreadable within 2 months. I wondered how it would last sitting in the car during the summer heat, but we didn't make it to summer.
