11 3/4" tall including finial Temple top on lid and 5 1/2" wide. This piece will hold up to 120 lbs. of living weight ashes and will be a lovely addition wherever it is placed in your home. I threw this piece on the wheel with Grolleg porcelain and hand carved the finial temple top on the lid while the piece was leather hard before burnishing it well with a fine terra sigillata. After it was bisque fired I coated the piece with ferric chloride and painted orchid leaves on it by a special method taught to me by a dear friend before saggar firing it with various combustible materials to achieve the phenomenal colors and effects. I absolutely love this process and the elemental qualities and colors it produces! The dramatic colors produced by chemical reactions within the foil during the firing process can continue to shift and change after the piece has been taken out of the kiln and completely cooled! This piece was low fired so it is porous and not food safe or water tight. It has been sealed with an acrylic sealer for durability and protection. Due to the unique process the colors on this piece may continue to change even after the piece has been sealed. It is best not to put it in strong, direct sunlight for a period of time as colors may fade. The wooden base is sold for $18 in Customizations.
