Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool [Blu-ray] [2017]

Poignant and well acted throughout
This is based on a true story and having read the book, I’m pleased to say a strong cast really do justice to this strange and poignant tale. Jamie Bell is convincing as a young Liverpudlian actor who becomes emotionally entangled with an Oscar winning Hollywood film star from the 1950s. She’s infatuated with her young lover, but is also vulnerable and ultimately tragic.Julie Walters plays mother with her usual panache and much of the story was clearly filmed in and around Liverpool. Good to see Leanne Best in a small role. No extras of consequence on the dvd, but overall a good film and I enjoyed it.

Beautiful film but story less engaging than anticipated.
I want to give this more stars because it was visually a beautiful movie but something was just missing. Cinematography was a beauty to watch with graceful fluid movements and masterful moments of voyerism that put you right into the scene. Sadly, something either in the narrative or acting just didn’t evoke the desired response over this complex and complicated love story as well as the fascinating story line of a “fading star”. Definetly worth watching if you admire film style but story does fall flat - completely admit this could just be me! Perhaps my personal admiration and expectations for the actors were too high.

A tough and touching movie
This movie has superb performances by Jamie Bell and Annette Bening. I think she is one of the most talented and underrated actresses working today. She takes on difficult and unsympathetic roles and inhabits them with such belief. This is not a feel good movie but a story that remains in you head long after the closing titles.

Very Good Biopic.
A fine and moving film with fine performances throughout. Sadly, for an old movie watcher like me who can recall the real Gloria Grahame, Annette Bening just doesn't do it for me, despite giving a very good performance. Jamie Bell is excellent and Julie Walters gives fine and realistic support.

It's a wonderful film
Bought as my mum had wanted to see this and couldn't find it. Arrived swiftly and she loved it. Being from Liverpool she knew the areas in the book and enjoyed every minute of it

A really good film, a lot of which was filmed in my area of Liverpool. The script is excellent and has a couple of very clever twists and turns. A love story without goo, but with genuine love from both sides. The two main actors are brilliant, as are the lesser characters. I think this film was an oscar nominated one which didn't make the final 4. I think it would have made a very good candidate for best film.

Disappointing
I say down with my girlfriend to watch this film last night. We were very disappointed. With such a strong cast we expected much better. It was as if it never got going. Then there was the jumping back and forth in time which probably didn't help. My girlfriend only wanted to give it one star. Would not recommend.
