Q: Does this have any stretch in it?

A little but not much. If the person has a gut, a bigger size maybe better for him.

Q: I know this Jaclyn’s not rainproof but how water repellent is it?

If just standing around it will handle intermittent light rain but not all day. But if you are running or hiking up a hill with a pack in the rain it does fine. Unlike many other softshell this one uses lightweight very breathable fabric so the sweat you are generating can escape. It is cut so you can put a 100 weight fleece under it. It is made with Marmot's "M3" fabric which is their most breathable and least waterproof. Their "M1" fabric is much more waterproof and less breathable. But I like M3 as you don't get steamy inside. I also have an M1 which works for all day in the weather and is almost "parka-like" This jacket is not a rain parka.

My sleeve length is 35 and the sleeves are shorter than I would want normally. But it is a great base layer.
