Nothing like ippodo at all. I bought it because someone said it was like ippodo. I strictly drank ippodo "Ummon" for 3 years that I bought at the ippodo store in Kyoto back to the USA in a small carry on in 2023 and kept in the freezer slowly drinking it over time. At the time I bought it in Kyoto it was only $24 for a 40g can of "ummon". I bought many many cans. The price in the USA is more than triple that now. The price is now astronomical I would literally have to spends hundreds of dollars a month to drink what I was drinking before. So I needed something cheaper. This is tasteless. I had to use 2 teaspoons for my latte and then it was soooooo bitter I had to use a lot of stevia (never used any stevia with ippodo ummon) for a similar price I will buy Yamamasa Koyamaen or Marukyu Koyamaen next time. I didn't know about these brands or where to buy them before I purchased this bag. I should have done more research. I had NO CLUE how spoiled I was drinking ippodo for so long. Akira is awful and not by any means "cheap" even with the stevia the bitter astringent taste clings to your tongue and the back of your throat. For 200 dollars for a bag this needed so much doctoring to even make it drinkable. My fault for not looking into it more. The color is yellow grey green and ippodo is rich forest green and strongly strongly fragrant sweet umami. This tea has a faintly sweet smell. Just awful for the price but I won't make the same mistake again. I'll finish this bag and NEVER buy this scam again. PLEASE do not buy this expecting it to be anything like ippodo- like I said I drank ippodo "Ummon" for 3 years straight I promise you this is nothing like it. 1 star only because I drank it about 2 hours ago and I am still alive. Total scam. I'm updating my review from 1 star to 4 because although the matcha is not like ippodo it really has grown on me and I have felt guilty now that I gave it 1 star. I got the huge bag so I have been drinking it for a month and I really do like it for the price.

I've been purchasing and enjoying Akira Matcha for over eight years. A Matcha Latte is my breakfast each morning. It fuels me till lunch. No other brand I've tried either at home or ordering out when traveling compares to its' smooth, mellow, fresh flavor and gentle but long lasting energy boost. Although not inexpensive, in my opinion it is the best value in class of organic premium matcha. I am never without it and always pack it when traveling. As a hobby painter, I look forward the gorgeous washi paper that arrives with each purchase - so many creative uses. Akira Matcha is a staple in my household that I am never without!

Incredible quality. I have been ordering the ceremonial matcha for many years. Between orders, sometimes I will buy whatever brand ceremonial matcha is available at local specialty markets, and the difference is noticeable. I also very much appreciate that it is sourced in Japan and that they are very particular about the processing. Forever a fan.
