Criminal [DVD] [2016]

Not as bad as some would make out, but it could have been better!
When you realise that this is from Millennium Films, the makers of Olympus Has Fallen, it' sequel and the Expendables films, you should have some idea of the type of film you are about to watch, mid-budget mindless action with a big name cast. This is essentially what you get!Costner and in some respects Oldman and Jones, the latter as a neuroscientist, seem oddly cast, but all still watchable and the unbilled appearance of Ryan Reynolds adds a little extra star power. The writers were also responsible for the Sean Connery/Nicolas Cage film, 'The Rock' and so I had hoped for something just a little better. However, I had forgotten that the original script for 'The Rock' had received an uncredited rewrite from Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais at Connery's behest and I believe had contributions from Aaron Sorkin and Quentin Tarantino, amongst others, all of whom are sadly not involved with this one. If only Costner had done what Connery did on 'The Rock' and hire someone to rewrite his lines, this could have been a film worth remembering. That said, overall I didn't think this was as bad as the negative reviews had made out. Mark Kermode placed it in fifth place in his mid-year list of the Worst Films of 2016! Usually cast as the good guy, Costner is great and seems to relish the chance to play a violent, foul-mouthed dangerous criminal and because of this, he is the main reason the film works at all. Jones and Oldham provide good support, even though both are capable of so much more. Criminal is an undemanding, but fairly entertaining film that is more enjoyable than a great many films I have seen this year. Not one of Costner's career highlights, but it is still good to see him back in action!

One to watch
For once a brilliant thriller is shot in the uk London !! Ryan Renolds is a Cia agent who gets killed with a lot a serious info that can change the coarse of the world .So Tommy Lee Jones is brought in being a special type of brain surgeon, to transfare the info from Ryon Renolds brain to the Guinea pig ie Kevin Costner who is a ruthless criminal who dos'nt no right from wrong or love or compassion .Gary Oldman is the Cia boss who thinks it's madness to do this but has no alternative. They transfare the info to Kevin Costner who starts 2 get bits coming into his mind gradually but dos'nt tell Garry Oldman anything ,He escapes custody n gets all the info eventually that Bill Pope had ie Ryon Renolds.Ryon Renolds wife ie wonder woman dos'nt no anything about this either .Then there's always a 3rd party who is the bady who also wants the info to.This makes for a really great thriller as kevin Costner battles to save the wife n child of Bill Pope and get the info and the money and try n save him self But does he save the day ?????superb performances from all the actors in this film Criminal a must watch movie.👍

Costner in top form with a great supporting cast.
It seems that Costner has always delivered and in getting older, has simply added to his ability as an actor and believe ability on the screen. The story was a little outrageous, but putting that to one side (and leaving ones brain outside the room), the rest was a fast paced, action packed, no holds barred entertaining romp - with Costner as a bad guy who you just can't help from liking. I will be watching this again sometime and know I shall enjoy it as much the second time as I had the first.

Great entertainment
Kevin Costner plays a no filter criminal, who has the memory of a dead CIA agent implanted into his brain in order to tap into the memories and catch the bad guys. I'm surprised that this was only a 15, it's pretty gory and gruesome, but in a comic book kind of way, and thoroughly entertaining. The characters are believable, and it's interesting to see how Jericho, the main character, deals with his new persona, celebrating his violent self, but also his new skills. Great support from Gary Oldman and Tommy Lee Jones.Books you might like to read An Angel's Alternative Cold Steel on the Rocks We Are Cold Steel

Good but very nasty film
Good but nasty - nastier than I expected as nobody else posted a review that described the violence. I can't say though that it wasn't a good film. Kevin Costner was great as somebody did say. Tommy Lee Jones had an unexpectedly bland part and Gary Oldman was just unpleasant (he was meant to be....)
