Good basic guide, but a bit dated in terms of photos and theory
Good training guide for puppies, athough the inside formatting and photos seems a bit dated - lots of 80s hair and outfits, and photos taken with a flash in poor lighting. It gives a week-by-week guide to training your puppy, with reminders of repeating previous week’s training. I didn’t follow it exactly, but used it as a basis to make my own timetable for training, and also enrolled my Border Collie x Miniature Poodle in weekly puppy training class. I’d advise that you take any dog training book that wasn’t written in the last 15 years with a pinch of salt, and do some research on modern reward based dog training techniques too. I don’t really hold with the dominance theory (outdated reasearch based on studying wolves, not dogs) which this book does touch on occasionally, but the majority of the training is in line with modern reward based training.

Good starting point
This is a good starting point for new puppy owners. It breaks down training into manageable objectives for each week. It also gives a lot of useful information about how to prepare for your new puppy and what to expect. Photos are a bit old fashioned but that didn’t bother me. The one thing I would criticise is that it focuses on reasons for training and one specific method, whilst it does not include anything on troubleshooting. I’m sure there are many common challenges that owners find when trying to get their puppy to understand the commands. When using this I also looked online for advice and videos and have found that sometimes other methods are needed to make progress. But as a starting point this book certainly was helpful.

Love this book just wish I had found it sooner.
I bought this on kindle so have it on my phone with me to refer to at any time. The book is everything I expected and I have a very well behaved little puppy! She is now 15 weeks old and I bought this when she was 11 weeks. She had already learnt some of the earlier lessons but this book has very clear, simple ways of teaching your puppy so having it from the day you take your puppy home would be ideal. The going to school lesson is ingenious and she just loves her school times!

Ambitious
I'm a novice and found the explanations clear and sensible. However, compared to other puppy books, this one seems to expect little short of miracles in 8 weeks. I don't have my puppy yet so can't comment on whether the methods work but it seems well-thought out, clear and instructive.

good book but ignores the fact that all dogs are ...
good book but ignores the fact that all dogs are not the same and a strict time table is not viable. It could cause a first time dog owner to get stressed if they could not conform to the weekly target. It can take a lot longer to train a young dog than is listed here. Some good tips here tho'Long delivery time for the book.

This is a great book with clear instructions for training your puppy
This is a great book with clear instructions for training your puppy. From week 1 all the way to week 8.I am on week 3 up to now and after following the advise and instructions week by week,my puppy has responded to each instruction well. The crate training is working too!Best advice- never give up its not all going to happen straight away. Train several times a day not just once. Reward your puppy well. All the effort is worth it.

Outdated, buy a different book.
I can't remember how I came across this book but it's in the wheelie bin. I bought it as a gift for a family member who is getting a new puppy soon. I've given them a much better book instead by Patricia Mcconnell without any reference to pinning a puppy on its side to ascertain whether it "is dominant" and never letting a dog sleep on your bed or get out the car first (?). The last few decades of research in domestic dogs isn't well reflected in the advice- it's dated. Obviously it's not all bad (and its 15+ years old I that explains things somewhat)- but it's a bit difficult to give someone a book, with the caveat of "ignore large sections".
