This is a great kit. Most everything is included plus excellent instructions. The socket with the kit is quality too! My only advice is if you have a deeply recessed anode, when you install the new one attach the socket to a longer extension to start the threads by HAND. That way you can see if it's threading in straight. Don't use a wobble or tapered end extension! My old rod came out easily with a stout ratchet and a few taps with a dead blow hammer. Very impressed. So far no smell.

The About Fluid Michigan anode rod kit, the product description, the selection advice (Al vs Mg) and the instructions were all fantastic! I'm a fairly experienced DIY plumber, but I think anyone could feel confident that this kit was the right choice when ordering, and be comfortable that they've installed it correctly. The aluminum rod is working well to keep the sulfur smell away. The segmented rod is easy to install and looks more robust than others I looked at in stores. The included 1-1/16", 6-point, deep socket worked perfectly and will be a high quality addition to your socket set; and of course, who can't use an extra roll of teflon tape! Much appreciated that About Fluid thought of everything! (Note, I completely drained and refilled our 11-year old tank and added the suggested Hydrogen Peroxide. Maybe overkill, but the smell was gone immediately. If you choose to drain your tank completely, just remember to break loose the old rod's hex fitting while the tank is mostly full, so it's weight can resist the torque of loosening the fitting.)

We recently got a new water heater and quickly discovered the rod that came with it doesn’t mesh well with our well water. We had no idea what an anode rod was! This aluminum/zinc rod worked instantly with the hydrogen peroxide to clear the horrible sulfur smell after running the water for a bit afterwards. We checked the rod in our old water heater and there wasn’t one, just the top screw part. 🤪 It was very easy to install and will definitely buy again in a few years.

This product is amazing. I've owned 8 houses in my lifetime and never had a problem. This water has iron in it and stunk horrible when heated. My current heater is only 2 to 3 years old. Right after installing the new rod the smell is completely gone and water is much softer. So happy.Things they dont tell you....if it's the original rod in your heater it's very tight, I couldn't budge it with a breaker bar. Had to go borrow a 1/2 in battery powered impact wrench from my local garage. It's down in there so its tricky to get the threads started too. But it's not too bad of a job. It's nice they include the socket because it's big and 1/2 in dr.

This is a quality product, made in the USA by journeymen plumbers. How often are you going to change an anode rod? Don't just grab the cheapest Chinese made rod! (FYI: You will most likely need and an air impact to loosen the old rod. I had to set my 650 ft lb impact on full grunt to loosen.) The full kit even provides the correct size deep well socket.

Inexpensive replacement. Easy to install. Instructions are great and very easy to follow. Included socket is a huge help. Fixed my smelly water issues.

It definitely got rid of the rotten egg smell… For a week. I’m going to try a powered rod next and see if that lasts longer.

Installed a new water heater after many years, and suddenly our hot water smelled like rotten eggs. I tracked down the culprit as the magnesium anode rod interacting with sulfur bacteria in our well water, and an aluminum / zinc replacement rod as the cure. Since I didn't have a 1 1/16" socket, this About Fluid set was what I needed; the instructions were excellent! Be prepared: the factory-installed magnesium rod was torqued within an inch of its life; it took a breaker bar plus a cheater pipe (about five feet of leverage) plus a buddy holding the heater to wring it loose; I also needed to use a hacksaw to get it out because of our basement's ceiling height. The About Fluid rod slipped in much more easily, thanks to its multiple segments, and torqued securely (though way less than the original...). Bonus points for the suggestion in the instructions to add some hydrogen peroxide before inserting the new rod; the sulfur was gone almost immeditely. It's been a couple of weeks with no sulfur, no leaks and no other issues.

This product worked exactly as described. The kit contained everything I needed to change out the anode rod and the link style rod provided makes it simple to work in tight spaces. The rotten egg smell was gone overnight! Just follow the directions. I would recommend this to everyone!

Made rotten egg smell worse. Sadly too late to return but I would if I could. DON'T buy if you are trying to fix the issue with smell from hot water.
