well, you could google it, but here ya go: a cup of dry uncooked rice weighs approximately 180 grams or .3968 pounds. there are four cups to a quart, so, 19.2 cups in 4.8 qts. so now you multiply 19.2 cups (volume) by 180 grams (weight) and you get 34,560 grams or 3.456 kg....convert kg to pounds multiply 3.456Kg by 2.2 lbs/kg....6.89 pounds of rice....more than you can eat in one sitting. 2-3 cups of uncooked rice., with 2 1/2 it is about three quarters full.

Is it oven-safe, including the little black handle on the top?

The black top handle is not oven safe the rest of it is. I used mine in the oven many times before replacing the top. I still use a lot
