Tecsun M-601 Rechargeable Digital Portable FM Radio, Audio Recorder & Player with Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C Input & Built-in Micro SD Card Slot

This radio is surprisingly good sounding even though it has small speaker. it has a passive membrane speaker in the back. I confirmed that is does have a 2500mah battery installed. As the radio is sold the antenna that doubles as a wrist strap is only adequate for local FM stations of decent power. This was not acceptable and I installed a female SMC connector, cut the built in antenna down and attached it to that. I then installed an SMC male antenna to the connector. The shiny stuff inside the original antenna wire is not conductive and not shielding material this did not matter in reception. Reception was substantially improved with the new antenna. A station that is 60 miles from me and difficult to receive on most radios came in loud and clear and full stereo. I might not be using the radio a lot I wanted it to be able to be turned off completely so I installed a switch between the battery and radio. I was surprised and pleased to learn that while the clock loses it's setting the radio does not lose the stations it found, and the mp3 player remembers exactly the last file it was playing and the exact point in the file no matter how long power is turned off. I was able to measure current draw with my mods and found the following: The clock (with radio in standby) and no light on uses between .068 ma to .100 ma averaging about .084 ma. With the light on and in standby mode the unit uses 7.198 ma. With the radio and light on at full volume the unit draws 220ma. With the mp3 player at full volume, and light on the unit draws 169ma. Based on these measurements the radio (in standby mode and no light) could last 3 years on a charge. In FM mode and at full volume the radio could run for about 11 hours. In mp3 player mode at full volume it could run for about 14 hours. very impressive. Full volume from the speakers has a lot of distortion though. Very nice radio lots of potential. REALLY needs a real antenna.

I've purchased several Tecsun radios before, and this one had a few features I liked, such as USB-C recharging. Unfortunately, the reception of this radio suffers from the lack of a real antenna. I'd have returned it if I hadn't missed the return window from Amazon. Tecsun makes great stuff - but this is one to avoid.

My 10yr old Tecsun starting to lose reception clarity...this one is better with internal antenna

I'm never again buying a Tecsun radio. I spent a lot of money on different other Tecsun models. They all work well for a while. Then, they start losing stored memory stations even with fresh batteries. Additionally, they have an antenna problem: Reception is affected by how you are holding the radio (I am not referring to AM reception which depends on the orientation of the unit as it should, due to the internal antenna). Plus, I find programming the units unintuitive.
