Great planters!
I've got now got 12 Fat Leaf planters in my garden, a collection that's been slowly building up over the last few years, plus I've bought a few as presents for friends and family who also love them. I've got small hex's, medium hex's and a couple of small troughs. As you can probably tell, I really love these planters! They're very well made and attractive and don't need any treatment at all in order to stand up to the elements. The planters I bought in summer 2014 have been through a couple of winters now and as I live in the North West of England they've seen plenty of rain! The only discernible ageing I've noticed is that they've gained a silvery colouring as the wood has naturally aged, and this happened in the first 6 months or so with no further changes since. The larch is still as solid as a rock and so far I've not seen any rotting or shrinking or anything at all that could give me cause for concern. If you wanted to you could apply a plant friendly wood treatment to these before using but to be honest I like their naturally aged colour. Based on how they've been so far, I could well believe that these could last for the 20 year the manufacturers claim. With that in mind I find the cost very reasonable for the quality you get.I'd be more than happy to add more of these to my garden but unfortunately I've now run out of room! Fat Leaf do make bespoke garden furniture though, so maybe it won't be the last purchase I make with these guys! For info, I've included below the measurements and capacities for the different trough planters Fat Leaf make (taken from the Fat Leaf web site):Type-------------------Length----Width----Height----Capacity------------------------------------------------------------------------------Small Trough---------68cm-----30cm----30cm-----42 litresMedium trough-------84cm-----30cm----30cm-----54 litresLarge Trough---------104cm----30cm----30cm-----66 litresEx. Peter from Maidenhead
I have purchased a number of these troughs over the last 4-5 years, initially from the manufacturers, but more recently Amazon due to the better pricing. They are well made and even my old ones have not shown any signs of wood deterioration normally associate with cheaper brands. I can thoroughly recommend all Fat Leaf products including those not sold by Amazon. Fat Leaf will also make bespoke to size as they did for my son.

Needs a wood treatment
I bought this as I wanted to plant winter pansies and also to sprinkle my late dogs ashes in so I could see from my kitchen window. The trough is a good size. I would have expected that for the price that it would have come with varnish, but may-be the seller has left the wood plain so that people can choose their own wood treatment. Looks much better since we varnished it. Sturdily made.

Impressive and expensive looking
Excellent quality, not the usual flimsy wood you sometimes get. A solid feel and looks a treat especially when I used decking oil to bring out the colour of the larch wood and to help preserve the wood. I also used a liner before putting in the compost/soil mix with drain holes. Have put in alpines and finished it off with very small gravel and it looks an absolute treat and very expensive. Overall am more than pleased with it.

Very Nice
An attractive design, 100% British and according to the Fat Leaf web site is guaranteed for 20 years against rot & deterioration. Depending on your specific usage, you may need to plan on using a liner as the slats at the bottom do not "seal" the base and will allow some soil to pass through.

disappointed
Strong smell of damp when I opened the package, bottom supports of trough seem wet, I just hope they don't rot away. This is the second trough I have purchased, the first one was fine
