Emporia Vue 3 Home Energy Monitor - Smart Home Automation Module and Real Time Electricity Usage Monitor, Power Consumption Meter, Solar and Net Metering for UL Certified Safe Energy Monitoring

I just received my Vue 3 this week and it has been online for less than 24 hours, but I'm already impressed with the value this system provides. I installed it myself, and it took less than two hours. I'm not an electrician, but I am pretty handy with household DIY, and am used to working with electronics, etc. Working in a breaker panel is very dangerous, so if you have any doubts, please just pay an electrician a few hundred dollars to install it for you. The installation documentation is very good, and straight-forward. Emporia also has a lot of information on their website. I had a complete gameplan and realistic expectations going in. I have a total of 20 breakers, so i knew I would need to be creative to get full coverage. The only 2-pole breaker that I didn't use a single CT and multiplier on was my dryer, because I knew dryers are notoriously unbalanced. This was confirmed by my readings washing and drying 4 loads of laundry last night. Good call. My HVAC and water heater seem balanced enough to use one CT and a 2x multiplier going by my readings so far. I also combined several circuits on the same legs (2 wires/alternating breakers) to achieve full coverage with 16 CTs. This works well. I also have a couple of breakers for items I rarely use, like a floor heater in the basement, so I opted to just leave them unmonitored and if I do use them, they'll show up in the "balance" from the mains. The last atypical part of my setup was to connect the hot wires for the monitor to 20 amp breakers instead of the recommended 15s. This was just due to their proximity to the monitor and required me to replace the supplied 14 gauge pigtails with 12 gauge THHN. Easy peasy. I also bought a four-pack of Emporia's smart plugs to cover one outlet at the panel that has its own breaker, and to give me the flexibility to drill down individual appliances on a monitored or unmonitored circuit. Adding the Vue and the SPs to the app literally could not have been easier. If you prepare by reading their documentation first, you'll be ready to hit the ground running. Write down the circuits and ports to which they're connected. Know any CTs that will need to be merged, like my dryer. I also nested my unmonitored SPs under the main device, and monitored SPs under the appropriate circuits. All was easy to do in the app. So far, the balance, or the difference between the reporting from the mains and the totals from the monitored circuits has been negligible. I know this will vary, but I think I've got it as good as I'm going to get it with 16 CTs. I'm happy. The provided data in the app is great. If I could make any suggestions, one would be to make it easier to look at a specific time on the graphs. You have to slide the graph to the right to go back in time and you're limited by the width of your screen. Going back several hours can take dozens of swipes. That's annoying. Put a drag-bar at the bottom, and/or allow me to pick a time manually. Also, you can only see spikes (such as HVAC startup) at the "second" resolution, so if you're trying to determine peak loads for an alternate energy source, there's no easy way to get them in the app. The export feature certainly helps by generating granular spreadsheets at all resolutions, though. It just emails a link once created, which is pretty slick. The whole Emporia Vue system is meeting or exceeding my expectations at this point. If anything changes, I will update my review.

My brother installed this at his house and loved it. After seeing his system in action, I bought one for my house. After installing mine, I liked it so much a purchased a second system as I have two independent breaker panels and wanted better monitoring of my whole house electricity use. Do you need to actually see the energy distribution of you home circuits? Probably not. But . . . is it reassuring when away from home to know that your lift pump, well pump, outdoor hot tub, furnace, freezer, refrigerator, etc. are cycling as expected? Most definitely! Installation was easy enough. You need to fully understand the breaker panel and risks involved when working close to hazardous electrical wires. If you've ever added or replaced circuit breakers on your own, the installation is straight forward. The system monitors the two mains coming from the power company and up to 16 individual circuits in the breaker panel. You can monitor a 220v "dual" breaker using two of the 16 sensors (one on each "hot" wire to each half of the breaker), or you can use a single sensor on one side of the breaker and "double" the usage measurement automatically in the app. For an electric HW heater, this makes total sense as the usage is identical for both sides of the breaker. Using only one sensor in this case frees up a sensor to use elsewhere. I bought a 16 sensor and an 8 sensor system. The base station for each is the same, so I can always order another 8 sensors to maximize monitoring. For me, I really only care about the big energy appliances and I do not monitor most of my 15 amp circuits (lighting, stereo/TV etc.) The app automatically sums all circuits per breaker panel and includes the "balance" of non-monitored use as a separate line entry. I can tell how much electricity the entire panel used any given second, hour, day, week, month, and the app sorts usage from highest to lowest. Lastly, I purchased a 4 pack of their "smart plugs" to dial in usage of a few small appliances that are not on an isolated/single breaker. They nest seamlessly into the app and add additional monitoring that I find useful. I never knew how much I would appreciate having this information available at any time and from anywhere on the planet. I doubt I will ever save money using this product, but I will forever enjoy the ability to monitor and measure the electricity usage of my home.

We are using much more electricity than I anticipated, so I had the utility company investigate the meter and also ordered the new Emporia Vue Gen3. The instructions for setting up the device are very straightforward and in my case, we have a modern load center and it can be done easily by a handy person. That being said, you are operating in an area where you can easily electrocute yourself when not paying attention. If in doubt, let a licensed electrician do this. The hookup with a modern panel that has enough room will take somewhere in the realm of 15 minutes. YMMV with older installations. Now the amazing piece is, that the accuracy of this device is easily within 1% of what the utility company claims. I am very impressed with how quickly and accurately the device measures the load and displays changes. You can look at the consumption at different resolutions: A given circuit's usage per Second, Minute, Hour, Day, Week, Month, and so on. The finest levels of resolution like Second or Minute are only kept for a limited amount of time (nobody will scroll back that far anyway), but the coarser resolutions will be kept indefinitely. This system works incredibly well. I can see in the finest resolution if I turn a device on or off immediately. But when I look back on how much my Water Heater used last week I need seldom a finer resolution than the hour. If the 16 sensors aren't enough you can either shuffle them around or buy a 2nd Vue and nest them to get more coverage. Alternatively, if you have more circuits than sensors, or, if you want to monitor devices on a given circuit separately you can add Emporia Smart Plugs. That allows you to single out power hogs or add more monitoring capabilities without having to buy another full Vue. Once you nest the plugs into your setup the graphs are smart enough to display your usage correctly. I am very happy with the device and can wholeheartedly recommend it at this point. We figured out that our AC is running a lot more than it should because the insulation in the attic is sub-par and a bunch of devices that didn't need to run were wasting energy in the house. Effectively the Vue has already paid for itself.

I want to love emporia Vue products but their software is pretty terrible in terms of analytics. It's recently gotten much better, finally allowing you to search by date but there are a number of other flaws that just make it frustrating to be stuck in their data ecosystem. You can flash this hardware with open source firmware and send it to home assistant but you have to do some tricky soldering on the Vue3. The Vue2 was easier to modify. Luckily Emporia does allow you to access their data api via open source libraries so you can use some custom solutions. In terms of the sensors itself, these work well! Unless your electrician is serious about wire management, you may create a real wiring mess once you add in all the sensors but at least with the Vue 3 they allow you to cut the wires to length and they're a *little* thinner than the Vue 2. The Vue 3 hardware is supposed to be a little more accurate than the Vue 2 but for the home monitoring use case I don't think you'll notice this at all. Unfurtunately you can only have a maximum of 16 circuits per box, but you can combine them with their cloud software. The problem is in many circuit breakers having 2 of these things can be a stretch space wise. One solution is to run the cables into a junction box attached to your breaker box. Totally do-able but adds cost. In terms of installation for a regular home user -- I wouldn't recommend it unless you have the ability to disconnect your main circuit breaker outside of the box. If you still have mains cables (the thick cables coming from the street) coming into your circuit breaker carrying live current and you're not used to working with electrical system then you're asking for trouble. Difficulty wise it is EASY, but if you're not aware of electrical systems it is DANGEROUS. Still it shouldn't cost much to have it professionally installed if you're not comfortable and I can't imagine have a house not hooked up to an electrical monitoring system. I've diagnosed so many little issues using these and things that I just didn't think about previously. Example: we had a really old freezer and it was running 24/7 costing almost $300 a year! The replacement paid for itself the first year. Who knows what you'll find? All in all Emporia should just admit their weakness: software. If they released firmware for the Vue series that made the data locally accessible / home assistant compatible then this hardware would fly off the shelves because it works well. Instead they lock you into their cloud software which takes years for them to develop new features on and has only recently (the past year or so) become more useable (they can probably thank AI). One can dream.

Update-was able to find problem areas in the home and got the lowest electric bill in 9 months! Home humidifier was running way too much, made adjustments and it’s fixed. Devices drawing power but not being used now turned off. Furnace setting adjusted to make it more efficient. This will pay for itself in 2.5 months. Solid product, quality components and killer app! Installation was quick and painless. The connection viaWiFi was flawless and it started reading my panel instantly. Responds to changes in loads almost instantly and provides very accurate readings throughout the day. The app has everything you need to monitor your home. It’s clear they have thought of just about everything. My only complaint is the length of the cable they provide for the WiFi antenna. I mounted it on the bottom of the panel and haven’t had connection issue but would have preferred to have it on top.

As an electrical engineer for over 50 years now I love cool stuff that can provide useful data, and this Vue 3 Home Energy Monitor hits me right in my wheelhouse. I went with the 16 circuit sensor version and would have gone with a 24 or even 32 sensor model if it was available (our load center has 38 circuits total). I picked the 16 most used circuits to monitor and have been collecting data for the first week to see where the juice goes. Already found one surprise - my office uses more energy that I expected, but between the Vue 3 and a handy Kill-A-Watt handheld meter, now I know where it's going: my triple headed 14900KS PC is a power hog! Lol! Picture shows the sensor array installed inside our load center. I used the household distribution map I created decades ago to identify the circuits I wanted to monitor and documented the result in a spreadsheet for reference. The desktop and Android app allow custom naming for the sensors which makes the data presentation easy to relate to. Very pleased with this system so far! Cheers!

The hardware feels solid, the clamps are easy to position, and the app gives real‑time data that updates quickly and reliably. Within minutes of setup, I could see exactly which circuits were driving my consumption. What impressed me most is the accuracy. The readings are consistent, responsive, and detailed enough to make real decisions about energy savings. The app layout is clean and intuitive, and the notifications are genuinely useful rather than overwhelming. If you’re serious about understanding your energy use — whether for efficiency, cost control, or just curiosity — the Vue 3 is an outstanding tool. It’s become part of my daily routine, and I’m genuinely impressed by how much insight it provides.

Absolutely amazing! Customer support is the way it should be and is absolutely amazing. This gives you your energy usage in detail, with every breaker. I'm able to select my power company and the app automatically adjusts your exact charge per kW. Entered my billing date and now I can make sure everything is adding up. I can see my live usage, hourly, daily, etc. I can view by the cost, watts, amps, or volts. Even works with solar panels. As a bonus, the company wants to hear your suggestions on ways to improve the device. WORTH EVERY PENNY.

So far I love this thing. Works great and is relatively simple to use with an iPhone. So long as this company does not brick people device by trying to force some paid subscription I will always recommend this to anyone that has a reason to monitor/track their consumption. I would like a model that offers more connection though. Sounds crazy but a 32 input model would be real good. Setup was very easy. If you have any electrical knowledge you will not struggle to setup. If you do not YouTube is a great resource to show you how to get it all connected. But even then the guides do great as well. App performs well on iPhone. Once you get a hang of it it’s real easy to see your power consumption under almost any unit time interval. 1min to years at a time. You can see your live consumption. You can name each circuit so you know which is which without having to reference your breaker. If not they give you labels you can place in your breaker to known which number is which. Packaging was acceptable. Now I know people want to know about accuracy. So far, I have to say, it’s near identical match to my utility providers logs on my consumption. Most of the time I think the error if any is caused by rounding by my provider. In other words Emporia is giving me a more precise measurement which I love to see. Oh and as a bonus. If you aren’t lazy like myself you can adjust the length of the wires for better wire management with some wire splicers and a little screw driver. I’m only a week in though. I will modify this review if things change but so far I am super happy with the simplicity of setup and in its performance. If you can still read this portion you can be certain I love it. I’m back. It’s been longer. My experience with this has only gotten better as the app has improved drastically. Very very happy with this product. Accuracy has been spot on. Helped me lower my bills too. You will find after the first couple months you will probably not use the app much but it’s very nice to have at the end of the month to see if everything adds up and if you can reduce power consumption. Supporto post vendita veloce e preciso via email solo in Ingelse ma non credo sia un problema con i traduttori gratuiti a disposizione di tutti. Di facile isntallazione previo stacco della corrente dal contatore e non solo sul quadro! Per noi che abbiamo praticamente solo monofase basta collegare solo una delle pinze amperometriche più grandi sulla fase in ingresso, dunque ne avanzerete due di quelle grandi. Consigliato

Das Gerät ist eigentlich ganz Gut. 1 Stern Abzug da es mit der Original Firmware nur über die Cloud nutzbar ist und in Homeassistant dann nur mehr 5 Min. durschnittswerte ankommen. 2 Sterne Abzug da die Stromkabel mit Falschen Farben angeschlossen sind und ich somit ein Gerät Zerstört habe. !!! Blaue Kabel sind im Wechselstromkreis immer Nullleiter und niemals eine Phase !!!
