Very little, but once it starts growing you can separate clumps and plant them in more places to achieve a wider spread at a more rapid pace. It spreads really well once it takes. Well worth growing these, I'm really happy with mine.

Can you plant the seeds directly into the garden or do you have to use a seed tray?

They come as small plug plants and you are advised to plant them into separate pots and allow development before transplanting to garden area. I did this and so far all seems to be going well.
