All 5 films from Don Coscarelli's Iconic Horror Franchise together for the first time on DVD. - PHANTASM: REMASTERED / PHANTASM II: THE BALL IS BACK / PHANTASM III: LORD OF THE DEAD / PHANTASM IV: OBLIVION / PHANTASM V: RAVAGER Review: Great Set of Movies! Great Extra Features! Horrible Case! - Phantasm is hands down, my favorite horror movie franchise. I already owned all of the movies on DVD, including the region 2 Phantasm Sphere collector's set of the first 4 films. But they are currently all packed away with no immediate access to them. So with Halloween fast approaching, I decided to buy this low-priced DVD set of all five movies, so I could enjoy them all over again right now. I already knew in advance, from reading other reviews, that the 5 discs came stacked on a spindle in a regular sized DVD case. No biggie, I thought, especially given the price. My beloved movies arrived quickly and in great condition. I removed the shrink wrap and opened the case. Everything looked perfect. I then tried to remove the first disc from the top of the spindle. For the life of me, I COULD NOT GET THE DISC OFF THE SPINDLE! I must have spent 15 minutes pressing, poking, and squeezing the middle of that spindle. Finally, with my wife's assistance, I manipulated the spindle, while she pulled up on the discs, and all five of the discs came out at one time. Fortunately with no scratches or damage. Whew! I probably own close to 2000 DVDs and Blu-rays, and have NEVER had such an issue removing a disc from its holder. Needless to say, all my new Phantasm discs immediately went into a spare 6 disc case I had, along with the DVD artwork insert. Now my set is perfect, and the discs are easily accessible whenever I want to watch one of them. I would never consider knocking a star off a DVD set of my all-time favorite horror movies just because of the case they come in. But be prepared to be possibly frustrated in trying to get these discs out of the case. And I highly recommend that once you do get them out, find something else to store them in. This is far too great a set of movies to risk damaging the discs due to a stubborn, poorly designed case. Phantasm Forever! Review: Great shows, perfect condition - Bought on a recommendation, so worth the money. I loved these movies when I watched them. The case and DVDs were in great shape, there were no imperfections that prevented the disks from playing, and no errors when playing them. Overall, prefect experience.

Great for any PHAN
It’s a great addition to any fan of the franchise on a budget. The streaming rights (especially with part 2) are always all over the place so it’s nice to have the whole series in a neat little set that’s easy on the wallet.

Nice/cheap collection of all 5 films
this is a nice budget DVD set for those who don't have the films, or only have the older DVDs. They all looks great and have a decent number of extras (mostly commentaries, and a making of for the second one), and they all look great. I'd recommend purchasing this even if you only like 2 of them because of the price. Although if you have the anchor bay DVDs, keep your copies of 1 and 3. Or the anchor bay UK box set if you have that. If you have one of the blu ray box sets, you probably won't get anything new out of this set. As for the films, I love all of them, even if, objectively the first two are the only really good ones. Here's a brief review of each one: Phantasm: A creepy, dreamlike film that doesn't have many answers. It's slow paced, but it's never boring. The budget is low, but they make up for it with their creativity. The main character Mike is really likeable, and so is his brother Jody, and friend Reggie. The plot is about these 3 characters having to fight off The Tall Man, who is an unstoppable monster (his origins are never really revealed), from killing their other friends and family. The Tall Man and his abilities give these films a fantasy element that works with the horror. The plot is not the strongest aspect, the characters, and atmosphere are what make this film. The commentary on it is pretty fun too, even if it's roughly 20 years old and from a laserdisc. Phantasm 2: Not anywhere near as creepy and already the dreamlike feel is deminished. Also the kid who played the main character is replaced by someone who isn't as good (originally Michael Baldwin, James LeGros in this one). Despite these flaws, this is an awesome sequel, it replaces a lot of the horror with humor and action, although it does have creepy moments, especially with The Tall Man. Once again the characters are great, so you don't mind the added humor, if anything it makes the characters more likeable. This one has the most coherent plot of the bunch (whihc isn't saying much), and is a nice complement to the original inspite its thematic and tonal differences. The extras are great on this disc, though if you have the shout factory disc, you already this disc, (they didn't even replace the shout factory logo). Phantasm 3: The first one to go straight-to-video, although you wouldn't be able to tell because the production value is quite impressive. This one is fun, but not particularly good. From this entry onward, Reggie becomes the character we spend more time with, and he's a lot of fun. The problem is that the story is about Mike (luckily the original actor returns for this and the remaining entries) and he's barely in it. In fact The Tall Man is barely in it. This one feels like a lesser version of Phantasm 2. However it does pick up a lot of steam around the 45 minute mark when Mike finally returns to the film, although he is way too victimized. This is a fun movie, and if you loved the first two, you'll enjoy this, but it's not particularly great. The extras: the older anchor bay DVDs had a decent commentary that was fun and informative. This one has a different but equally interesting commentary that is more informative than the old one. Phantasm 4: Most people hate this one, I don't mind it but I can understand why other people hate it. I still like the characters, and there's a new interesting idea between Mike and The Tall Man (I won't spoil it). But most of the film is Mike wandering around the desert, Reggie driving around aimlessly, The Tall Man saying things that aren't as creepy as what he usually says, and deleted footage from the first one used as flashbacks. This one was made for the purpose of making money for an epic fifth film, that for years never got made, then essentially became Ravager. It's always clear that this was made as a filler movie and for years it was the last one. This one returns to the tone of the first film, but it's nowhere near as creepy as even the second one. I don't mind sitting through this one, but it is my least favorite. The extras: There's a commentary that makes the film more entertaining than if you watch it with the actual audio of the film. Phantasm 5: Phans are divided on this one, but one thing we can all agree on is that it looks really cheap, at times it looks like a fan film that got the actors from the previous movies involved. Some hate it, whcih I can understand, but Some, including myself, really enjoy it. Don't expect a particularly conclusive ending, although it does provide a certain degree of closure. This one has elements of the horror tone of the first one, and the humor of the second. Like the previous two, it's too Reggie centric, but Mike has a better role in this than in 3 and 4. The film looks really cheap, but the other thing everyone seems to agree on is that it is very well-intentioned, and it's heart is in the right place. This was not made as a cash grab. For that reason, it's hard to dislike this. Seeing these characters one last time was nice, even if the film isn't that great, and looks really cheap. There aren't many answers, this is just one last adventure we're seeing. It is more conclusive than Phantasm 4. This one also has a nice and informative commentary, and a blooper reel. There are talks of doing a 6th one, which unfortunately would have to be without Angus Scrimm as the Tall Man, (he sadly died before 5 was released), but if they do, Doug Bradley or Tony Todd could be good replacements. For people who haven't seen any of them, I highly recommend the first two, and I'd say the rest are optional, but I enjoy all 5 of them. Films ranked: 1. Phantasm 2. Phantasm 2 3. Phantasm 5 4. Phantasm 3 5. Phantasm 4

Incredible set, and a lot better than I was expecting!
For the price, I was expecting the typical faceless double-sided disc with menu options to pick the movie you want to watch. How incredibly surprised I was to find out that all 5 movies are the actual, full fledged DVD discs with complete artwork! I was blown away by this. For less than $25, I have all 5 of the full fledged Phantasm DVD discs, and they all work and play flawlessly! Incredible value!

I have been a fan of the Phantasm movies for years. The first Phantasm movie that I watched years ago was Phantasm II and then years later, I watched, Phantasm, Phantasm III and Phantasm IV and the best movies in the series are the first two films. I like the backstory that explains the Tall Man origins and in Phantasm Ravager, we see what the world looks like when run by the Tall Man and his minions. There is an interesting twist with Reggie in Ravager and Angus Scrimm is superb as the Tall Man. May Angus Scrimm rest in peace. It is an iconic horror series that would not have been possible without Halloween.
