Update 08-28-2026: You can read my original review below, but this particular drive went South about a Month ago, after 22 Months of Service. Fortunately, the Crucial T-705 2TB drive gave me some warnings, that initially I thought were some driver conflicts. (Windows now has the "Black Screen of Death"). I also received the Master Boot Record missing a few times, and other anomalies. Finally using CHKDSK, I found corrupted sectors and while these were repairable, they kept on showing up. I contacted Crucial requesting an RMA, and while this took awhile, they did honor the warranty, but they were out of the T-705 drive, (as they are moving away from Consumer products), but did send me a 2 TB P-510 NVME drive, which is not close to an equivalent, but better than nothing and a very good back up drive for me. To be fair, I have a number of Crucial NVME drives that have proven to be reliable and I will miss Crucial no longer being in the Consumer market. I would no longer purchase the T-705 drive if given the chance, as there are now other faster drives that run way cooler than the T-705. I liked the T-705, but what a hot tamale for sure! This is an interesting piece of hardware. This particular NVME SSD Gen 5.0 exceeded read and write speeds for me in Crystal Disk, and that was on a working "C" drive. This Gen 5.0 drive cooks, and in more ways than one. Running this in the Gen 5.0 slot on a Gigabyte X670E motherboard. I made the error of initially installing this drive on an add in card with no heatsink to clone to as the target drive. I thought since the add in card drive PCIe slot was rated at 4.0, and not 5.0, I would not have to worry about temperatures. WRONG. The drive shut down after about 20 seconds, which I believe to be the temperature high limit was tripped. You absolutely have to run this SSD with a good heatsink, no matter what you are doing with it. I did not think the Motherboard heatsink was going to cut it, and installed a Thermalright heat pipe heat sink on the Crucial T705. This is a good heat-sink, but despite that, running Crystal Disk, and the heat-sink sitting above a hot RTX 4080 Super back plate, the drive still hit 80 Degrees C. running the Write portion of the Crystal Disk benchmark. This is in a well ventilated Case, but with an AIO over the CPU, this is kind of a dead space. I am going to get a slightly larger SSD cooler, with a fan. It helps if I run the RTX 4080 fans all the time to cool the video card and not transmit so much heat to the SSD cooler, but I am not gaming all the time nor do I want my Video Card fans running constantly. These are just some caveats to look out for. The Crucial T705 SSD is running flawlessly, and yes, games and programs do load faster. The associated Crucial Storage Executive is fine, but if you are used to the Samsung Tool Box, you will be disappointed. You are best off with an aftermarket cooling solution, as I do not think the "stock" heat sink some of the models come with would be adequate for file transfers, especially being so close to a hot Video Card. I ran crystaldisk on this to check the speed and it hit 14 GBPS in transfer speeds on my MSI Titan! Holy cow is this drive fast on a PCIE Gen5 bus. One thing to note is it definitely needs a heatsink because I notice it throttles a lot when pushed. I bought it before the Ai boom and got it at a great price, which was much higher than a Gen4 drive at the time. It's the one I'd suggest that's the fastest and most reliable for the price.

Paired with a fresh installation of cachyos, my pc boots faster than ever. Games load almost too fast. Instead of waiting on the loading screen, now i get into a lobby and wait for everyone else to join. Why am i always first? This Drive. Idk if i really needed two tbs, but im glad i got it. Especially right before the memory crisis, no thanks to out of touch corporations simping over ai.

Bought this drive to replace my boot drive in my main rig. Drive works flawlessly and is super fast. Price was amazing when I bought it literally a week before the ai craze started. You will need aftermarket cooling if using this drive for large file transfers or applications that push the drive full speed for sustained periods. I have mine paired with a Rhermalrigh h10 Pro digital and it keeps my drive below 50c under load.

These drives deliver exactly what they promise with the proper supporting hardware. I am running 2 of these drives; a 1TB OS drive and a 2TB game drive mounted on an Asus ROG Strix X670E-F mobo with a 7800X3D CPU. Right out of the box these drives were delivering maximum anticipated sequential read and write speeds, of 13+Gbps and 14+Gbps respectively. One thing that I think most people overlook is the fact that your OS drive can take advantage of Momentum Cache through the Crucial Storage Executive software. Enabling Momentum Cache will lower your top end sequential read and write speeds (see the 3rd pic) but it makes a HUGE boost to your random read and write speeds (which are the most imporant on an OS drive for it to boot quickly, load your login apps, and make the OS feel as snappy as possible). I definitely recommend enabling this feature for your boot drive. My game drive is seeing 14+gbps sequential reads and let me tell you, large map and level load times in AAA titles are insanely fast. I have once to be beaten into a game by another player since installing this drive. Overall, EXCELLENT drives and worth the money. Very very happy with my purchase.
