Bottle Gourd Seeds for Planting - Calabash Birdhouse Variety (1 Pack)

I planted the seeds and I was very surprised to see how much the plant vines out! Next time I plant em I’m gonna make sure I have more room! The seeds grew well, they came in a basic white packet instead of a normal seed packet that has image and seed description behavior, which I wasn’t a big fan of. They didn’t cost much which was nice, and the seeds were very weird and unique looking! Never had seen bottle gourd seeds before!

I read a book about growing gourds from seeds, and I snipped off the “ears” with a nail clipper, and soaked them overnight. I then planted them with seed starter mix in a tray with small compartments but then when I tried to remove them, some seedlings broke. So, I planted a few more seeds in peat pots, which I can plant directly in the ground once they grow 4 leaves. The seedlings grew so long that they were flopping over so I bought aluminum wire on Amazon and made stands that looked like lollipops so the circle at the top could hold them up. I also bought a grow light, not really necessary, though out of all the different kinds of seeds I planted, the gourd seeds are doing the best. Keep in mind that there will always be a few that don’t germinate but that’s life…and one thriving plant will take up a lot of room and proliferate.

I’m amazed! ALL of the seeds sprouted! Too soon for gourds but I’m excitedly waiting! They look to be strong vines. I have so many birds around I’m looking forward to decorating the gourds for bird houses! I’d say it’s a great value for the money!

[Update Aug2026] After 1.5months 4/10 are sprouted. It just took time but it worked so I added stars.[Update Jul2023] I saw 10 and none sprouted in 1 month. A gourd seed I got from friend which she got from Philippines spouted within a week, so this gourd seeds I got from Amazon was completely defect. Maybe they didn't store well.It's been 2 weeks but nothing is sprouting yet. Followed instruction and put in pots on 1July. I'll try other batch today.

Nothing growing yet. I soaked overnight and planted today so I will update as it goes to see how viable the seeds were. Some of the seeds were smaller but most sank after soaking which should indicate good germination. I'll provide updated info as they grow (or don't).I did plant in compostable planters as most gourds/squash do not appreciate root disturbances so I wanted to be able to pop in the ground once started.Update: June 3rd - so far only 1 has germinated. I started these at the same time as another brand and also made sure they were viable seeds by soaking. I'm glad I decided to get 2 different brands but am bummed that these are having a hard time getting going.

I planted these over the spring and oh my goodness these are amazing!! At first i didn’t think they would take off but they did! The gourds are huge!!! I get tickled everyday I go out to look at them and to see how many I have and how big they are getting.
