York Fitness Weight Training Gloves

I bought these specifically for wearing only when doing pullups and chins, not to prevent callus formation, but to prevent the awful knurling on my pullup bar from causing burns on my hands when my grip inevitably slips.The finger portion of the glove is far too small to prevent this from happening, they barely even reach the first knuckle, and this portion is fabric, not the neoprene the padding is made of.This is a problem when using specifically for pullups or chins, because the best grip to utilise is "hooking" the base of the fingers over the top of the bar. For using a barbell or dumbbell, it's fine, because the best grip is across the very top of the palm (just before the fingers start) and this portion of the glove is well padded.I can't speak to their durability, especially since the knurling on my pullup bar is pretty much like sandpaper, because I imagine most gloves will end up shredded by it quite quickly.

These are my go-to weight gloves.I am replacing my last pair which I bought in Aug 2019. The grip has worn down - but they do get hammered everyday!Comfortable and protect hands and rings too.I have small (ladies) hands so bought small.The velcro fitting means easy to take on and off unlike other pull on pairs.Wash really well in the washing machine - remember to velcro the glove together before you wash to stop it attaching to delicate items like lacey knickers!

If you go ahead and buy these, make sure you go for a size larger than what you think will fit your hands. E.g. I would say my hands are medium but I went for the large and they fit perfectly.I really like these gloves, the rubber reinforced palms means that you get a really good grip on most surfaces. I do a lot of press ups, chin/pull ups and these gloves grip way better than the York leather gloves they are replacing  York Leather Gloves The padding around the finger areas is also good and will be good for light to moderate use, only issue I can see is if you lift really heavy weights and you need to get a tight grip, the padding might work against you!As you'll see from the photos the gloves are open on the top, but this doesn't mean your hands will sweat less, if I remember correctly, it's your palms that sweat not the top of your hands! Saying that, this design should mean that the gloves dry quicker as it can be opened up virtually flat for drying.I have been using them for a couple of weeks and so far no signs of any damage.Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and prefer them to the York leather gloves they are replacing. They are comfortable to wear, provide good protection, look good, and they are pretty cheap!UPDATE - A month or so after buying these, the rubber padding on the palms has started to come away in small chunks. Still going ok so far but I think the whole padding will come away after a few more months. If you are a heavy user then I wouldn't recommend these at all.UPDATE 17/09/2012 - Ok these are just falling apart, the rubber padding on the palms are shedding like mad. I can't recommend these at all now, avoid!

Good value. Excellent padding provides good grip and comfort. The only drawbacks are that they do not breathe and so your hands can get very hot in warm weather, and that once the surface starts to break up after prolonged use there are lots of small pieces of black rubber dotted across the workout area. These are minor gripes however and the moderate price makes it relatively cheap to replace them once they start wearing out.

I am a regular at the gym, 3-4 times a week, and each time I do free-weights and I was finding some discomfort from the grip grooves in the weights, to the point a blister appeared. I needed a pair of gloves but didn't want to pay through the roof for a pair, these are the perfect pair of gloves. I don't have overly big hands, but certainly don't have small ones but the large size fitted perfectly and my hands no longer while lifting. Highly recommend them if like me you need gloves when working out. I cannot fault these yet but will leave a further review once I've had them for longer than a month.

I workout to exercise dvds frequently and have a considerable collection. Quite a few of the recent ones I've used have an exercise called the "renegade row" (Jillian Michaels, Patrick Goudeau, Paul Katami, eg) which entails being in full push-up (plank) position with a weight in each hand and doing alternate back rows. I have very small hands and the pressure from the weight on the hand on the floor was quite painful, to the extent I could only do the exercise on my knees. So I bought these gloves and they are brilliant, very comfortable and provide just the padding I need and I can now do the full renegade row.

I have selected my size and they fit like a glove (irony). I have read about the concerns that these gloves colour your hands black, but two months through heavy training, I have noticed no such thing.Easy to grip and they have a nice feeling when wearing. However, I have nothing to compare with, but I am definitely satisfied with the purchase.

For the price, these are great value. They do wear out quickly, and they make your hands sweat quite a bit due to neoprene - but they do the job, and prevent the skin from hardening from repeated weight lifting etc. Thats what I bought them for, so funtionally, they are amazing.They are also easy to wash - pop in the machine, leave to dry - no hassle!
