It is unfortunately all too rare to find a politician who is genuinely interested in matters maritime. It is even rarer to find one who is passionately so interested and who actually knows what he is talking about.That is why it has been a great and unexpected pleasure to read this excellent book by the recently retired President of the Republic of Seychelles. He thoroughly understands his subject and describes it very well.President Michel is a very strong supporter of the concept of the "Blue Economy" which, essentially, envisions the long term economic and environmental sustainability of the sea. He not only advocates the concept but, very articulately, describes how that sustainability can be achieved.Born and brought up in the tropical island paradise of the Seychelles, he appreciates his and his countrymen's good fortune but also their vulnerability. He understands that their fortune will always require careful stewardship as will that of the people of other islands and of coastal nations. He knows, too, how important the oceans are to all the people of our "Blue Planet" for the long term. This wide-ranging and very far-sighted book accurately describes the current situation of the oceans and the problems facing them. The author, however, is positive and confident that if the correct approaches are universally taken, the oceans can be cleaned, protected and sustainably utilised for the great long term benefit of mankind.A wonderful book that should be read and digested by all politicians and anyone with any kind of interest in the sea.Neil Baird, Chairman, the World Ocean Council.

This is an excellent book! It describes and explains all concepts of blue economy in a very delightful manner. Worth of reading every single sentence.
