Nice Introductory Book
My mentor professor forwarded along this title to me because a) I'm currently student teaching chemistry and biology and b) I'm interested in chemical education research (having published a few papers with said mentor). Overall, this is a nice text, with the most useful sections being the "In Practice" sections towards the end of each chapter. None of the information is necessarily new to me since I am engaged in reading literature for research, but the papers within provide a nice theoretical background. Some of the practical ideas, for example those presented in the chapters on language and chemistry and interdisciplinary curriculum development, I found to be very useful and I will most likely reference this book at a later date when I a developing curriculum. Although there was nothing necessarily eye-opening about what I read in this book, I think that selected portions of it would be great to add to a teacher education program, especially the examples of various classroom activities and how to construct them. However, as a student, even one interested in chemical education, I'm not sure if I would appreciate having to buy and read the entire book. Overall, a very nice survey of chemical education with a nice smattering of ideas. I will be using it again so my money was well-spent. P.S. - The references list alone for research makes it valuable in my eyes. :)

Excellent book !
Excellent book with good ideas for teaching and doing research. Every chapter is a serious discussion touching different aspects in tecahing and learning chemistry (didactic, organization, resources, writing, experimental work). The subjects are very interesting and some of them have been presented in international conferences and lectures. This is a book highly recommended for highschool and university chemistry teachers.
