What is the grip ring for?

The ring will develop hand and finger strength. Put the ring in your palm and simply close your fingers around it. Squeeze and hold. The grip ring is 7cm diameter so fits easily in a pocket for use during the day.

I’ve already bought this but I seem to have an issue with the main gripper the spring seem to ding everytime the handle is engaged is this normal?
