Nice addition for outdoors
I bought this item for a couple of reasons. I've been using a stone for making pizzas for a year or so in my indoor oven. It recently broke and I needed a replacement. I've also recently acquired a decent gas grill for outdoors. I read about cooking pizzas on a grill outdoors and figured this was a great idea. The grill gets much hotter than my oven (between 600 and 700 degrees whereas my oven is straining to hit 550) and I had read in my pizza bible "American Pie" that you should get your oven as hot as possible.I received my stone on Friday and took a shot at my first pizza on Sunday. I learned an important lesson on the first couple of tries. I can get the grill up to 600 degrees easily (according to the built in thermometer on the grill lid), but the stone temperature hits almost 700 degrees ( have an Infrared thermometer which is great for getting the temp of the stone). As opposed to a conventional oven with heating elements on top and bottom, the grill heats from below, and the complete lack of insulation of the lid of the grill allows the heat to radiate away fast enough that the pizza will brown quickly on the bottom, but not be browned on top. My next attempt was at a much lower temp. About 400 deg on the lid thermometer and around 350 on the stone. This cooled slower than what I am used to in my indoor oven, but the top and bottom of the pizza crisped up at about the same time leading to a very nice result. One other note on this stone. I could have probably gotten a replacement stone for around $30 that would have worked fine on the grill. I like the metal stand that comes with this stone. It helps keep the pizza from sliding away when sliding the peel under it.

I use it for perfect pizza and many other great baking
This is a great baking/pizza stone. Here's how I have used it since 2008:I have never used the metal frame, just the stone.Over the years it has cured to a black baked-on finish with oily feeling. I have kept it in the oven continuously (even when I don't need to use it) for a few years. It has not cracked or degraded. I have sometimes placed dough to make bread and the occasional pizza, but I have found out the adding cornmeal or flour to it before placing the dough creates an ugly mess in my oven and the pizzas are hard-ish to slide from a peel anyways.So....I use it as an efficient heat sink when I bake bread (with an old bread loaf pan full of water to create a humid environment). For pizza, I place the stone in the lowest rack and place a pizza pan on top of the stone (or lasagna pan with the uncooked pizza in it). Since it is farthest from the top heating elements, it takes time to brown, but the bottom is getting the direct heat from the stone creating a pleasant crunchy bottom.I usually pre-heat the oven with the stone a minimum of 20 minutes and it works. An hour? Sure, but I've found out 20 to 30 minutes is enough. One last word: I suspect you can get any high quality stone of any shape that accommodates your pan and save a little money. I have not had a chance to compare this stone to any other. If you find this review helpful, please click on that. Thank you.

Who needs a pizza oven
This product works great as advertised, turning my outdoor grill into a wood fired pizza oven - sort of. I've always wanted an outdoor pizza oven, and recently learned that you can make pizza on the grill. With a little internet research, I soon had some great dough recipes to try out. I started by using a round pizza stone I already had. Pizzas turned out OK but tended to get a little blacker on the bottom in order to have the top well cooked. So I searched for a stone that would fit better, and found this on Amazon. This model is a litle cheaper than others I considered because it doesn't have a built in thermometer - I figured I could use the one on my grill. The rectangular stone raised off the grill worked great, and the bottoms didn't burn (don't forget to put wood chips in your grill for even better flavor - not on the stone, though). The raised edge on this product keeps the pizza from sliding off when you try to lift with a peel, and the removable stone is easy to clean. I had a party for twenty people and made a bunch of pizzas, and they raved about them. For the price, this stone does the job. My only knock would be if it was an inch shorter in width, I could get 2 in my grill at once and do 2 pizzas at a time.

Great stone..need a great pizza dough
Works great. Very happy with purchase. Did find that the temperature recommendation was low==pizza didn't cook well enough. I turned the grill temp up and the pizza cooked great. Now I just need to find a great pizza dough recipe!

Broke into 4 Pieces After 6 Uses
The stone is about the thickness of a floor tile. It had a crack down the middle of it after one use. The stone broke into four pieces during the sixth use. The stone is not sturdy enough for a barbecue grill. I strongly recommend buying a thicker stone (7/8" or thicker). This stone is a waste of money.

Look at all the reviews... It's Junk Don't buy it
I had this item for 8 months and used it 6 times and the stone cracked in half... Do your research and see that these stones break often... Don't waste your money...
