Tall Grass. Stories of Suffering and Peace in Northern Uganda
B**S
An informative account of grassroots peacebuilding in the LRA war
Fr. Carlos, as he was then, was a well known figure in Northern Uganda during the period that the LRA rebels were fighting there. His dedication to grass-roots peace work in the region was practically unsurpassed: from meeting with rebel commanders to seek a negotiated end to the conflict, to campaigning for and securing an amnesty law (against strong government opposition) that would allow adults and children abducted by the LRA and forced to commit unspeakable crimes, to return to civilian life. This book offers a detailed and authoritative description of his experiences in that context. Those who have an interest in Kony and the LRA war will benefit from an account that is neither politically motivated, nor academic, but rooted in the experiences of the people he was seeking to serve - the Acholi community. Those who believe that remedies to the ongoing LRA conflict are simple and military may find it challenging.
