From the years of design and manufacturing through launch and deployment to the extraordinary images and the new science they inform, Infinite Cosmos showcases the revelations coming from the James Webb Space Telescope—the sharpest planetary vistas and the deepest views of the cosmos humankind has ever seen. Stars forming in clouds of cosmic dust. Jupiter and its moons sharper than we’ve ever seen them. Galaxies billions of years old. The first images from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) have electrified the world—and astonished veteran scientists with the wealth of information they reveal. In INFINITE COSMOS, National Geographic tells the 20-year saga of the telescope’s development and the feats of science needed to send it into orbit around the sun, a million miles from Earth. Page after page showcase more than 100 spectacular photographs picturing the cosmos as never seen before, from stardust coalescing in the Eagle Nebula’s “pillars of creation” to glittering galaxies, newly discovered exoplanets, deep-space fields of stars, and the planets of our solar system in vivid detail. The definitive printed record of these historic astronomical accomplishments, this is a book that inspires awe and admiration, perfect for space and aerospace enthusiasts, libraries, and anyone who looks up in wonder at the starry skies. Review: Spectacular Pictures - Yes, we have all seen many of these pictures and read the story of the JWST for years. But to have these huge pictures to look at and study is amazing. I see more details, and am able to read exactly what the views are, what the colors mean at length.... I can't tell you how much I love that. Just opening in the first pages and seeing the Pillars of Creation picture, recognizing the constellation Orion in the corner. It gave me shivers to realize the size and scope of the pillars, and know that even though I can't see these with My eyes, I know where to look, where they are. Brian Greene and Ethan Segal are a couple of my favorite authors/ physicists/ teachers. This is great! Review: Beautiful Book - This is a gorgeous book with out-of-this world photography (pun intended). I bought this for my teenage grandson who likes all things science.

A truly unique coffee table style book about space exploration
I bought this book for my mother who loves the exploration about her space. She lives in an assisted living facility, and perusing. This book was so good for her mental engagement. We had wonderful conversations about how far we have come in terms of exploring outer space.

NOT WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE
THIS IS NOT A BOOK OF PICTURES TAKEN BY THE JAMES WEBB SPACE TELESCOPE. IT IS THE STORY OF THE TELESCOPE. I FEEL MISLED BY THE "LEGACY" PART. I WANT PICS OF SPACE. THAT SAID THE BINDING IS GREAT, PRINTING BEST QUALITY.

Beau livre, mais...
La première moitié du livre (et donc des photos) est consacrée au télescope (construction, mise sur orbite) , et seulement la 2ème moitié à ses images de l'univers. J'aurais préféré voir plus de ces dernières et moins des premières. Question de goût.
