A necessary documentary.
This gives exactly what it promises to: a day by day account of WWII. What it does so well is give a sense of the overwhelming rush of the events in a way that books simply can't. To realize that, six weeks into the war, Poland has been conquered, the extermination of the Jews has begun, the embargo and bombing of Britain is underway, and America's research into atomic weapons has already begun is to realize how great a role that early decisions, made under unbelievable pressure, would shape the direction of everything which followed. There are quibbles--footage is often repeated or not from what is being described--but these are minor in comparison to the sense of awe inspired by the pace at which things moved and the how well Allied leadership performed under such intense pressure. Bravo to all involved in putting this together.

Hope Volume II is in the Works
I've only watched the first 6 months, but like what I've seen so far. The narration is kind of lame, and the same clips are used on multiple dates, but overall very satisfied. The chronological approach is great for tying the war and all of its fronts together. Other documentaries in my collection didn't even touch on Russia's war with Finland, but the Russia-Finland skirmish receives a good percentage of the attention in the first six months of WWII Diaries. Will definitely buy Volume II whenever it becomes available.

Films excellent, and covers the entire war day by day
Very interesting. Films excellent, and covers the entire war day by day. But, the commontater is monotone and mispronounces names and words. For the money, this was a great deal.

Plodding
I guess I should have known what I was getting with this. It really is a diary type production with sing-song narration. It will put you to sleep.

Good job with the series but the sound guy's ego was too big.
I like the way they did it but after a few episodes I could not watch it anymore because of the sound. The music mixer guy thought his music choices were more important than what the narrator was saying. It is hard to hear what the guy is saying when the music volume is turned up. That mixed in with the back round noise from the footage makes it impossible to hear what he is saying Lastly, the banging drum in between days gave me a headache. That could have been minimized and made the films much better.
