Prison will make or break you... Danger and violence have always been a part of Susan Dalston's East End upbringing, but being locked up with another murderess will have consequences that no one could have predicted. TWO WOMEN by Sunday Times No. 1 bestseller Martina Cole tells the truth about prison life, and how far one woman will go for justice... Susan Dalston killed her husband in a final act of desperation. Banged up in Holloway, all that keeps her sane is knowing that her children are now safe from the man who terrorised them. What she can't predict is that the bonds she forms on the inside might just make - or break - her. For more compelling novels about life on the inside, be sure to read Martina Cole's FACELESS, THE JUMP and THE GOOD LIFE Review: LOVED,LOVED,LOVED IT!!!!!!!! - I am a big fan of Martina's books-some have been more enjoyable than others, however this one was great!!! The story centred around a married couple-the down-trodden, abused wife, and the drunken, abusive, and quite frankly revolting husband. The story was quite hard to read at times-domestic abuse is a part of life for many people and I had trouble making myself read just how awful it can be....I was literally holding my breath waiting to see what would happen next. The entire story was fast-paced, with a good storyline that kept me glued to my kindle, and there was a bit of a twist at the end that I really did'nt see coming. Two Women is one of the most enjoyable books I've read in a long time. Review: You know exactly what your getting with Martina Cole. - Another great read. Always know exactly what you are getting with Martina Coles books and still go back and read them! Gritty, full of interesting characters and a side of humour. Just love what she does.

Two Women is a great read. I could hardly put it down
I don't think I have ever cried at the end of a book...I have at movies but never a book. Two Women is a great read. I could hardly put it down, I don't know what I'm gonna do when I have read all Marina Cole's work, this must be the 6th in a row I have read. Highly recommended

Once again a brilliant piece of work by Ms.Cole. Unputdownable as usual. All of this authors books are fantastic and this one is no exception. A book that can be read over and over without losing its fascination. A honest look into the British underworld.

Hope
"Parents shape their kids". Reading this book I found it to be true while think of things I've actually seen and heard of in real life. Glad that the kids all were able to rise above the unfortunate situation they were born into and become adults with a career. This tells us that there is hope not matter what you went through or where you came from

... at 672 pages but I have to say I enjoyed it very much
This is a long book at 672 pages but I have to say I enjoyed it very much. Two Women opens with us being introduced to Susan Dalston who is now locked up in prison for the murder of her husband. How far would you go to protect yourself and your children? Susan loves her kids more that life itself and she will do everything and anything in her power to keep them safe. This is quite a depressing and brutal story but is very well written. Susan's life is full of sadness, married to a man that abuses and torments her daily and basically has no regard for her at all, she is virtually trash to him. He also rapes his own daughter and leaves her with a venereal disease for life, what more can be said. Eventually Susan kills her husband and she has no quarms about his death and admits she was fully sane when she committed the act and if she had to she would do it again. The story then moves back to the present where Susan is in prison. Enter the second women. This was really quite a strong drama with a bit of mystery thrown in, the characters are strong and the plot well put together. I will now look at Martina Cole's other books

Great book
This book, though very graphic, grabbed you right from the first pages. An amazing insight into the lives of woman involved with petty crime lords and the abuse they the see as their lot. As well as being about a mothers love and efforts to protect her daughter.

My Absolute Favourite Book Of All Time!
Two Women is Martina's best book by far, it's also my favourite book and I have now read it at least 7 times! From start to finish it is absolutely fantastic and well written, with every character anything but boring! I loved every one of them, no part of this book disappointed. You know from the beginning of the story what Susan and Debbie's parents, June and Joey, are like. June, who knows she should be at home caring for her daughters but would rather sleep with half of London, and Joey who is abusing Susan and is an out and out foul thug. Joey's mother, Ivy, is a fantastic character, who thinks nothing of treating all around her like dirt and mad the story so much more interesting. Susan is a lovely character, brave and kind, who can't stand being a McNamara so when she meets Barry Dalston she thinks her dreams have come true. Barry is while evil, cruel and foul, another fab character who leaves the reader shocked, sickened and stunned at his treatment of susan. Susan is continually abused throughout her marriage to Barry and when she loses babies through his treatment I was left upset but gripped by the story. Not one page is disappointing or unbelievable and it makes u feel so lucky not to be part of this family. Susan's abuse is ignored by everyone except her lovely mother in law and friend Doreen. Barry becomes more evil with every page and just when u think he can't get any worse he does. When he finally does the unthinkable and rapes his eldest daughter Susan does what any mother would do and exacts her own revenge and gets sent to prison for murder. Near the end I was so intrigued as I couldnt understand why Susan didn't tell of her years of abuse in order to get home to her family, which is slowly falling apart thanks to the kids being in care and her youngest about to be adopted. Of course u find out why and her reasoning is astounding. I have never been so passionate about a book before, my heart broke for Susan and her struggle to raise her chidren amongst Barry and her family, but she does a great job. The only character I slightly disliked was Roselle, Barry's lover and Susan's best friend, who dumps Barry after he almost gives her herpes. But all in all this is the most exciting, gripping, heart-breaking book I have ever read, pure entertainment, a story of a world nobody would ever want to enter at any cost.

Generational abuse in East London
A vivid illustration of patriarchal abuse that never ceases to escalate from generation to generation. A Martina Cole insightful classic.
