Tutor Master Helps You Write Stories: Bk.2

This slim A5 size booklet has eighteen different story plans to help children begin to write and is very similar to the first book in this series. These are useful frameworks for children to use, but they really need parental or tutor involvement to help improve writing. There are some ideas on how to make your story interesting, feelings to use (also in Book One), speech, etc. However, for the age group this is aimed at, you do need to talk through these things at the very least. Possibly in response to criticisms of the first book, there is also a short piece on descriptive writing and on writing a book review at the end of this title. Again, they are good guidelines if you are teaching your child, or for a tutor to give to a pupil to refer to if they are left work to complete.The story ideas are a good basis for writing though and include non-fiction as well as story writing titles. Some of the titles included are, “The Day I Was in a Performance,” “A Visit to the Hairdresser’s” and “Invisible for a Day.” This is a useful book of ideas for extending writing, possibly as a piece of homework after a tutor lesson, which will give the child a structure of a beginning, a middle and an end to help base a piece of writing on. Just bear in mind that giving this to a child without any instruction or input will do little – not that I suspect most parents would do that anyway, but I just want to make clear that it is quite basic in design, despite being a good resource. Tutors would probably find this really useful though as an easy – and useful – way to give writing homework.

I have used book 1 and 2 to help me write stories. Both Tutor Master books are great to help you develop a story idea. It helps you structure your story with a beginning, middle and end. The Tutor Master books gave me the help I needed in order to improve the quality of my writing. There are lots of good ideas in this book and it is well worth having.

This book is really good for 11+ writing skills. It helps forgood plannings and conclusion for writing.
