This book is designed as a gentle, step-by-step guide for re-parenting the inner child during the first seven stages of life: as an infant, a toddler, a young child, a grade school child, a young teen, a young adolescent, and a young adult. Using a wide range of tools to do this inner work, the reader is led to explore the issues of grief, shame, and loss at each of the seven stages. Review: Great - Very detailed systematic comprehensive book. Review: Really pleased I bought this - I usually avoid this kind of self help book completely, I find them glib and facile, but I have only done the first few exercises and am already feeling the benefit of it. I can see I will have to be prepared to delve deeply, but it will be worth it, I think. I've ventured into therapy a few times in the past, unsuccessfully, sometimes because of poor therapists, and partly my own issues - but this is something I can do at my own pace.

There are easier places to start
This is tough going. I found it easier to start with ‘Coping with trauma-related dissociation’ for a gentle build up of grounding and safety skills, and Pete Walker ‘Complex PTSD’ for what to do about flashbacks.

Small but mighty
This is a wonderful little book, very well rounded, with some powerful exercises to assist in reconnecting with your younger self and bring back feelings of excitement for life. It helped me know and understand myself better, and Im still working through some exercises since i could not yet unbury very early childhood memories. There are some self care activities in the book also, Including gratitude ones. All in all a powerful little book that will assist you in exploring your inner world and your potentially hurt inner child. Highly recommend it.

The Inner Child Workbook is a deeply useful resource for anyone ready to do the difficult work.
This book is a powerful guide for healing unresolved childhood wounds. Cathryn Taylor takes you step-by-step through a gentle but transformative process to reconnect with your inner child, release old pain, and finally reclaim the parts of yourself that were lost or hurt along the way. I especially loved how structured and practical it is. Cathryn uses a six-step process for each stage of childhood, which makes it easy to follow and revisit. She combines psychology, self-reflection, and even spiritual practices like visualization and rituals, making the experience feel deeply personal and holistic. I also purchased the audio book. Listening on Audible was a bonus — it felt like having a therapist or compassionate guide walk me through each exercise. I found myself pausing often to journal or reflect, which made the work even more impactful. A couple of things to note: this isn’t a quick, surface-level listen. It dives deep, and at times, it can bring up strong emotions. If you’ve experienced trauma, you may want to go slowly and have support as you move through it. Overall, this audiobook is life-changing if you’re ready to do the work. It helped me understand my past, release old pain, and truly begin to reparent my inner child with love and compassion. Highly recommended for anyone seeking deeper emotional healing, growth, and self-understanding.
